Nature of Work Technical responsibility for providing the layout, construction, installation, repair and maintenance of lawn and grounds irrigation and sprinkler systems. Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks Manager or other supervisory employee. Essential Functions of Work * Maintains and installs sprinkler irrigation systems in the City's parks system and properties. * Repairs and replaces mains and lines, gate valves, electrically controlled valves, and electric controlled lines. * Winterizes and conducts start up by blowing out water lines, winterizing pumps, pressure valves, back flow preventers and controllers in the fall and restarting the water systems in the spring of the year. * Trains and monitors work of seasonal and full-time employees assigned to irrigation projects to ensure all work assignments are completed correctly and safely. * Designs, performs layout and orders parts and supplies for new irrigation or sprinkler systems. Education and Experience * High School diploma or equivalent. * Three years of experience in sprinkler and irrigation system installation and maintenance. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS * Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Montana Driver's License Requirements of Work * Ability to repair small pumps and vacuums. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions efficiently and effectively. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public. * Working knowledge of proper management of water and facility operations, water quality, system components operational limits, and routine preventive maintenance. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to cold, heat, snow, wind, and rain, noise, dust, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, possess hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone or two way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized by the immediate supervisor prior to working it. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
