This is a high energy role with plenty of time spent on the production floor observing and overcoming issues to ensure scheduled production demands are met. The ideal Production Supervisor has proven leadership skills with an ability to bring improvements and efficiencies to the team. This role is key in helping the company improve the training, skills and abilities of our production team.Location: Hammond, IN (East Chicago Area)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Production Supervisor is responsible for supporting our automotive upfitting team. Our upfitters modify factory vehicles into police and emergency vehicles through installing wire harnesses, controllers, partitions, auxiliary batteries, light bars, push bumpers, power supplies, component trays, consoles, and more. This position will supervise approximately 10-15 personnel.Working and reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the vehicle upfitting process. This role ensures that all upfitting projects are completed efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards. The supervisor will manage production staff, maintain equipment, and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and customer satisfaction. Supervise and coordinate all aspects of the vehicle upfitting production process, including installation of specialized equipment and custom modifications.Plan, direct, and schedule daily production activities to align job scheduling needs and production demands, ensuring optimal use of resources and adherence to project deadlines.Identify and manage performance issues and training needs to support the development of employees in efficiencies, quality, and safety.Monitor the progress of upfitting projects, ensuring all work meets safety standards, quality expectations, and customer requirements. Inspect completed vehicles to verify upfitting accuracy and functionality before delivery to clients.Communicate with other departments, such as engineering, procurement, and sales, to ensure smooth project execution and address any potential delays or issues.Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and quality control issues.Maintain an inventory of upfitting parts and materials, coordinating with procurement to ensure supplies are available when needed.Prepare and submit reports on production progress, staffing, and other relevant metrics to management.Foster a positive team environment by promoting open communication and encouraging collaboration.Perform other duties as assigned. RequirementsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.Proven experience in vehicle upfitting, automotive production, or a similar field, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially under tight deadlines.Knowledge of upfitting tools, techniques, and equipment, as well as safety regulations.12v, OEM Upfit, and LEAN Manufacturing experience is desired. Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to producing high-quality work.Effective communication and organizational skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Proficiency in using production management software and tools is a plus.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts.Comfortable working in a production environment with exposure to machinery and tools.Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.PREFFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Higher consideration will be given to candidates who have completed at least two years, preferably graduated, from a four-year trade school, vocational high school or equivalent, with courses in general automotive repair.Consideration will also be granted to those with a valid mechanic's license or who are ASE Automotive Technician or EVT Emergency Vehicle Technician certified.
