Job Description

Job Description: The Supervisor of Health and Wellness will oversee the school nursing staff to ensure the effective delivery of health services across Stratford Public Schools. This includes providing supervision, support, and evaluation of nursing personnel, ensuring appropriate nursing coverage, managing hiring processes, and overseeing budget and ordering supplies. Key Responsibilities: * Supervision and Support: * Provide leadership and supervision to school nurses district-wide. * Organize all professional development programs for nursing staff. * Conduct regular evaluations of nursing staff performance, providing feedback and professional development opportunities. * Secure substitute nurses within our sub pool and/or by calling agency nurses for coverage for absences and field trips, professional development (ie: PMT training). * Coordinate coverage for nurses across the district to ensure all schools have adequate health services during absences or emergencies. * Hiring and Staffing: * Lead the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of qualified school nurses and substitute nurses for the school year, extracurricular and summer programs. * Ensure staffing levels meet district needs and are in compliance with state regulations. * Oversee retention efforts * Health Services Compliance: * Serve on Health and Wellness as district designee at both Local and State Level * Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal health regulations within the schools. * Oversee the implementation and compliance with medical 504 plans and health-related services in IEPs, working closely with special education and 504 teams. * Approve medical services required for students with special health needs and ensure proper documentation and reporting. * Budget Management: * Develop and manage the nursing services budget, including ordering medical supplies and equipment for district-wide use. * Monitor expenditures to ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to the budget. * Health Policy Development and Implementation: * Collaborate with district administrators to develop health-related policies and procedures. * Ensure policies are consistently followed and reviewed for improvement as needed. * Student and Family Support: * Serve as a liaison between school health services and families, providing communication and support regarding students' health needs. * Ensure nursing staff collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to address health-related student concerns. * Professional Development: * Plan and implement ongoing training programs for nurses to maintain high standards of care and compliance with current health protocols. * Stay informed about developments in school health services, nursing practices, and healthcare laws to provide up-to-date guidance. * Assumes all other duties as necessary or required by Assistant Superintendent of Student and Staff Services, Superintendent, or designee. Qualifications: * Education: * Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or a related field preferred. * Certification: * Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Connecticut. * Certification in School Nursing (if required by state regulations). * Valid driver's license and own transportation for travel between locations. * Experience: * Minimum of five years of experience in school nursing or a related healthcare setting. * Prior supervisory or administrative experience in healthcare is preferred. * Skills: * Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. * Excellent organizational and budget management skills. * Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families. * In-depth knowledge of health laws and regulations affecting schools. Work Year: 12 Months, Non-Union, Exempt Physical Requirements: * Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hands or arms, crouch, kneel, climb and stoop. * Regular walking and standing for extended periods of time on a daily basis. * Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push/pull . * Requirement to assist in the restraint, movement or other emergency weight bearing assistance of students. * Must be able to travel between school sites as required.
