Job Description: ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY Wethersfield Public Schools Wethersfield, CT Stillman Administrative Office Human Resources Specialist Job Posted: August 2024 The Human Resources Specialist will work collaboratively with Director of Human Resources & Operations and Human Resources Secretary to ensure the efficient operation of the Human Resources Office. Position Title: Human Resources Specialist School/Department: Human Resources Department Reports To: Director of Human Resources & Operations Start Date: Immediate Work Year: 12 months Compensation: Salary to be established by the Superintendent of Schools or designee Application deadline: Position will remain open until filled Duties and Responsibilities: * Will provide support as needed to the Director of Human Resources & Operations to ensure the appropriate processing of Staffing, Development, Safety & Health, and Labor Relations; * Meets with new employees to review employment paperwork and district procedures. Works with Payroll Supervisor to ensure proper initiation into the system; * Acts as Employee Benefits Coordinator managing Healthcare, Life, Long Term Disability, and FMLA/Leave benefits; * Responsible for tracking teacher evaluation records and placement of staff on evaluation cycle annually; * Works with Substitute Systems Manager to coordinate district substitute needs including professional and personal days, long-term substitute needs, and FMLA requirements; * Responsible for approval of tuition reimbursement and course approval requests; * Responsible for Change in Degree for certified staff; * Works with Director of Human Resources & Operations to ensure that staffing requirements and requests are considered and met to satisfy the needs of the district including internal transfer process, annual staff planning, and budget development; * Responsible for annual salary notifications to all staff members; * Responsible for reporting status of certified and non-certified staff to Connecticut State Department of Education electronic file; * Responsible for maintenance of data-driven personnel system; * Serves as certification liaison for certified staff, working closely with the State Department of Education to ensure compliance and district needs are met; * Assists Director of Human Resources & Operations in initiating tenure procedures and maintaining the system of evaluation for certified and non-certified personnel; * Responsible for assisting with budget preparation and management as it pertains to staffing within the district; * Responsible for approving leave days for certified and non-certified employees, including personal and vacation days. Approves professional days in conjunction with Assistant Superintendent and Building Principals. Works collaboratively with the Substitute Systems Manager to maintain calendar of substitutes required to ensure coverage in buildings; * Maintains complete confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the integrity/security of material supervised by the Director of Human Resources & Operations; * Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Director of Human Resources & Operations may assign. Qualifications: * Possesses to a high degree those skills necessary for effective verbal and written communication with all stakeholders in a multi-task, fast-paced environment; * Possesses to a high degree skills necessary to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents required in a data-driven Human Resources Office; * Skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor's Degree and/or three-five years experience in Human Resources, preferably in the public sector.
