Job Description: Office Paraeducator/Clerk - Irving School Compensation: * Per United Public Service Employees Union Derby BoE Paraeducators Local 424 - Unit 124 Contract: Description: * The Irving School Office Paraeducator/Clerk is a full-time (10 months, 5 days per week) position that reports directly to the Principal. His/her main responsibility is to provide support in the main office to administration, school staff, students, and families. Qualifications: * High school diploma with a passing score on ParaPro or associate degree from an accredited college * Shall possess knowledge of bookkeeping, filing, and use of general office equipment * Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of computers * Proficiency in Google Suite (i.e. Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) and Microsoft Office required * Knowledge of PowerSchool preferred * Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality * Fluency in Spanish is desirable Essential Functions: * Provides customer service to the school community in a friendly, courteous, respectful, and welcoming attitude * Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solving, and multitasking * Communicates effectively with attention to detail * Assists in composing school documents for administration * Assists in planning and scheduling school events and activities * Greets all visitors, both in-person and on the phone, to the school - including students, parents, substitute teachers, and others * Answers telephone calls, and provides information and assistance to callers * Distributes incoming mail appropriately; sends outgoing mail * Assists with new student registrations * Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and employees, providing information, facilitating communication among parties, and/or providing direction Additional Duties: * Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the office and school Equipment: * Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, copy machine, fax machine, telephone Travel Requirements: * Limited travel to and from meetings may be required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Describe problems and work orally or in writing to the supervisor as required * Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work * Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form * Work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals * Process paperwork accurately according to standardized procedures * Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others * Utilize organizational and time management skills Qualification Profile: * Experience in both an educational setting and an office setting is preferred * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form * Must be able to effectively deal with multiple individuals in a fast-paced office environment.
