Job Description

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. These positions are represented by the Public Employees, Local 71 and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and Public Employees, Local 71. DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation HOURS OF WORK: Shifts Vary 4/10s; Monday thru Sunday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM LOCATION: North Maintenance Shop (2839 Mt. View Drive) or South Maintenance Shop (11440 Lang St) Maintains turf areas including mowing, irrigation and fertilization. Maintains trails and walkways. Maintains various sports fields, rinks, and courts. Provides maintenance to facilities, signs, fences and barriers. Plants and maintains shrubs and trees as required. Participates in sanitation maintenance including litter collection, rest room cleaning, and park area cleanup. Performs snow removal and winter maintenance duties on parking lots, walkways, and other areas. Delivers, assembles, installs, and maintains parks and sports equipment. Reports acts of vandalism and makes repairs to property and facilities. Operates associated tools and equipment. which includes garden tractor, riding and push mower, and chain saw. Some positions may also require the use of pick up truck, utility trailers, snow machine, riding and push thatcher, weed eater, ice auger, ice rink edger, jack hammer, pumps, power and manual hand tools, generator, and compactors. Performs other duties as assigned.  Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.  Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.  The Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E-Verify Program. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.   The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.   Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application.  Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.  The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
