NASSAU COUNTY Title : MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES Under direct supervision, performs skilled work in the operation of automotive equipment and performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with such operation. Does related work as required. COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and core of motor equipment in the performance of assigned tasks. Employees are also required to perform recurring manual duties related to the operation of the equipment and to the loading and unloading of supplies transported. TYPICAL DUTIES 1. Operates a truck in connection with the hauling of school district equipment and supplies. 2. Operates a truck to transport workmen, tools and other equipment. 3. Operates a snow plow or related snow removal equipment. 4. Operates motorized lawn mowing equipment. 5. Performs minor mechanical repairs on automotive equipment. 6. Services assigned vehicle and maintains it in clean condition. 7. Loads and unloads trucks. 8. Performs a variety of simply manual tasks. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Good knowledge of the operation of trucks and other types of automotive equipment. 2. Good knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment. 3. Ability to make emergency repairs and to assist in making general repairs on motor driven equipment. 4. Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions. 5. Good physical condition. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience 1. Graduation from grade school and one year of experience in the operation of some type of automotive equipment; or, 2. Satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirement Possession of a valid New York State Operator's or Chauffeur's License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
