Help Duties As a Park Ranger your duties will include but are not limited to the following: * Assists in providing technical guidance and assistance to field station staff on program policy, management, and record keeping, including working with field station staff to identify needs and opportunities, communicating with field station staff about new and innovative products and processes, and problem-solving issues with field station staff. * Provides formal field station reviews/evaluations of program and evaluates overall program Region 3. Works with field station staff to develop an efficient and effective program. * Analyzes the program for gaps and develops appropriate guidance, procedures, and standard operating procedures to be used by affected groups. Identifies and provides for related training needs for the program to improve overall program quality. * Assists in providing technical assistance and guidance to field station staff in the planning, design, and formulation of recreational facilities (e.g., trails, comfort stations, observation decks), in consultation with appropriate experts, including engineering, facilities management staff, and other regional visitor services staff. * Based on the Visitor Services Standards Handbook or other appropriate tools, evaluates field station visitor services programs to determine effectiveness of their overall program and individual components of the program (e.g., volunteers, Friends, rec fee,). Makes recommendations for improvement of the field station's visitor services program. In order to qualify for this position you must possess the Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification GS-11: * One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed in order to successfully perform the duties of this position and that was in the same field or field directly related to this position. Specialized experience may include: 1) being responsible for multiple aspects of a comprehensive visitor services program for a conservation area, such as serving as a visitor center manager; 2) building collaborative partnerships with community organizations; 3) implementing visitor services policy for a conservation area; 4) designing interpretive/education products such as brochures, panels, and exhibits; 5) conducting environmental education programs. OR * Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation. Major study: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR * Have a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience, both as described above which, when computed as percentages of their respective requirements, total at least 100% of the qualifications required. Only graduate education in excess of the second full year may be used in this calculation. OR * My education and/or experience is not reflected in any of the above statements.
