Salary: $58,294.00 - $90,266.00 AnnuallyLocation : Chesterfield, VAJob Type: 12 months, 8 hours per dayJob Number: 14319Department: FN - Food ServicesOpening Date: 06/05/2024FLSA: ExemptGeneral DescriptionThe field supervisor position is responsible for providing guidance and assistance to site managers and staff to ensure program compliance, maximize operational efficiencies, and food integrity. The role supports the DIrector and Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services in planning, organizing, and managing of the Child Nutrition Programs, in accordance with district, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements that impact food safety, operation policy and procedure, food quality, and program funding. The Field Supervisor oversees daily activities, including supervising assigned personnel, performing human resource functions, and directing operations at multiple sites to ensure safe and efficient performance. Responsibilities also include meeting the mandated nutritional needs of students, providing customer service, ensuring adequate quantities of food items, and preparing written reports. This position is instrumental in assessing, planning, training, and evaluating data for program growth, marketing, and financial accountability. Essential Job Functions Ensures district compliance with established federal, state, and local guidelines by applying comprehensive knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program operations.Advises managers on effective problem-solving techniques for daily processes and proceduresConducts on-site visits to a minimum of 14 schools during the school year, as well as to schools and non-school sites during after-school programs and during the summer. Observes operations, recommends changes, and provides on-site training as needed.Supervises and monitors expenditures, site inventories, and related financial activities to ensure accurate allocations, proper revenue recording, adherence to budget limits, and compliance with fiscal practices.Establishes, manages, and leads efficient, high-morale teams at assigned locations to encourage growth, provide professional development, and provide support and accountability to the districtImplements marketing strategies in partnership with the Marketing Specialist to encourage school community participation in school meals programs.Collaborates with the Registered Dietician/Chef in menu planning activities, recipe implementation, and maintaining food quality standards.Evaluates the quality, presentation, consistency, and accuracy of meal production and service. Utilizes technology and data to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.Supports the Director and consults with architects on facility planning and remodeling of food service facilitiesCommunicates with administrators, professionals, and community members to exchange information, and implement and maintain services and programs.Works in collaboration with Maintenance/Facilities to effectively handle the logistics of relocating food, supplies, and small equipment, if necessaryPrepares, leads, facilitates, and participates in meetings, seminars and workshops at local, state, regional and national levels for the purpose of nutrition education, staff development and program growth.Participates in monthly managers meetings, assists in the coordination of back to school training, and compliance with USDA Professional Standards Requirements.Administers an employee recognition program from the purpose of maintaining positive employee morale.Budgetary Responsibility:Monitor schools' food, labor and supply costs. Monitors inventory and waste.Report Preparation:Responsible for yearly Federal reviews; manager performance appraisals; ongoing Supervisors' visitation reports; Meals per labor hour and a variety of other reports needed throughout the year.Equipment Operation:Need to demonstrate a moderate to high level of computer skills and know how to operate a computer, copier, calculator and general office equipment. A high level knowledge of the operation of institutional kitchen equipment within the schools is also required.Contacts:Contacts include principals, school staff, students and parents, managers and workers within the schools, vendors, food service support staff, the Director and Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services. Issues would include problem solving and communicating policies and procedures and expectations.Work Direction:Provides work direction to manager, assistant managers and food service associates in the operation of cafeterias as stated by the policies and procedures. Supervision:Assist in the selection of full-time managers and assistant managers and when needed in the selection of part-time food service associates. Responsible for performance appraisals of managers and monitors the evaluation of assistant managers and associates. Investigates disciplinary problems and administers disciplinary actions when needed. Decision Making:Level of decision making is moderate to high. Consults with Director, Assistant Director, and other central office staff of Food & Nutrition Services with issues concerning food, labor, supply costs and disciplinary actions.Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:Assists administrative team in revising and/or developing policies and procedures of the department and governmental regulations.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Local travel is required; some extended travel may also be required.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office environment; however, a considerable time will be spent in the school cafeteria environment. The noise level in the office work environment is quiet to moderate. The noise level in the school environment is moderate to loud. QualificationsConsiderable knowledge of institutional menu planning, USDA nutritional requirements, and food preparation procedures. Working knowledge of recordkeeping, data collection and analysis and reporting. Working skill in the use of personal computers. Demonstrated ability to act on operational decisions relating to food offerings, portion sizes, cost, employee scheduling, staffing and special events planning. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, principals, staff and management. RequirementsHands-on knowledge of the operation/management of the federal and non-federal programs at the School level, including the USDA program is preferred but education, training, and/or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. ServSafe Certified. Local travel is required; some extended travel may also be required. Valid VA Driver's License. This position requires the incumbent to drive.
