About the role:The Baltimore Banner is seeking an experienced leader in visual content to oversee a team of photographers, illustrators, and freelance talent. This role involves crafting engaging visuals in various formats to enrich article experiences and convey stories across multiple platforms. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Visuals Director will collaborate with editorial, digital, and audience staff to ensure that visuals on the site are optimized and aligned with brand standards.Candidates should possess a background in journalism leadership, the ability to translate complex topics into compelling visuals, a strong understanding of branding, and a keen awareness of digital and visual trends.Responsibilities:Manage the daily workflow of photo, design, and illustration requirements for The Baltimore Banner's newsroom.Supervise staff photographers, news designers, and freelance creatives.Provide art direction for comics, illustrations, and our most ambitious journalistic projects.Engage in collaborative long-term editorial project planning with editors and reporters.Assist the Managing Editor in establishing and upholding editorial brand standards.Requirements:Minimum of 5 years of experienceExperience managing projects and team members.An outstanding eye for visual narrative and the demonstrated ability to deploy photography, illustration, and design elements for effective storytelling.Experience compiling visual storyboards and writing creative project briefs, and working in visual design tools like Photoshop, Sketch and Figma.Willingness to experiment with new techniques and styles.The Venetoulis Institute embraces diversity and inclusion, and we are wholeheartedly committed to being proactive in inspiring a culture of inclusion across our organization.
