Position Title LAEP - Agriculture Student Assistant Posiition Number STSS90 Tenure Information Job Description Under supervision of the Agriculture Department Operations Manager, assists with maintaining and overseeing the agricultural facilities as they support the various Agriculture Department programs, curriculum courses, activities, and events, including but not limited to livestock care and forage production. Performs related duties as assigned This is an educationally beneficial position funded through the Learning Aligned Employment Program. The purpose of this position is to provide a student with work experience that relates to the student's area of study, career objective, or the exploration of career objectives in order to secure full time employment after college. A student in this position may work throughout the academic year. Employment is contingent upon available funding. Required Qualifications * Demonstrate an interest in working in the agriculture field and desire to get work experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position * Hold and maintain a valid driver's license, possess or have the ability to obtain a qualified applicators certificate for pesticide use. Preferred Qualifications Salary Range Minimum Qualifications * Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units in corresponding semester. Must present appropriate documentation that establishes identity and employment authorization. Desirable Qualifications * Desire to assist with the instruction of college agriculture courses (Agriculture Mechanics, Animal Science, Agriculture Business) * Previous work experience in: * Farming, cattle, and livestock handling * Managing or assisting in the management of ranch or farm operations Essential Duties * Performs livestock healthcare including basic animal-care procedures. * Assists in setting up labs and classroom teaching materials. * Assists Agricultural Department with the instruction of students and employees in the operation, constructs, maintains, and repairs the agricultural physical structures, equipment, and fencing. * Meets regularly with the Beef specialist to ensure clarity and efficiency in operations. * Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, andstudents. * Provides pasture management, rotating grazing pastures, weed control, and irrigation. * Assists in record keeping system for the Agricultural Department forage, and livestockgrazing practices. * Assists with corresponding with appropriate internal and external bodies as part of preparing and/or maintaining effective reports and records, as well as responding to program needs. * Other related duties as assigned.
