Definition:Under supervision of a supervisor, drives a truck to transport materials, equipment or people. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Drives a truck to transport materials, equipment, or people; picks up, loads, and delivers materials of varied types; may perform laboring and building maintenance and repair work; may supervise a small group of Laborer Light employees; performs other related duties as required. Requirements:Knowledge of: The care, maintenance, and the competent, safe and efficient operation of trucks and auxiliary equipment, including the cleaning, lubrication, minor repair procedures that can be done without recourse to the repair shop; procedures involved in the loading, unloading, and delivering of various materials and in the preparation of simple records, invoices, and receipts. Ability to: Detect truck driving and operating problems, organize assigned trucking and related work, and develop effective work methods; drive on unpaved surfaces; understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions and learn quickly from oral and written explanations and demonstrations; operate trucks and auxiliary equipment; load and unload varied types of freight; service, clean, and make minor repairs to trucking equipment; utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units; read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Special Requirements:License: Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. A valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL), Air Brake endorsement, or other applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated is preferred. Minimum age requirement: 18. Tools and Equipment Used:Two and four-wheel drive truck up to 26,000 GVW. Physical Demands:Position requires employee to: Continuously talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequently stand, sit, climb in and out of the truck, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms, and lift, load, and push up to 50 lbs.; and occasionally walk and smell. Vision requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:Position requires employee to: Continuously work in outdoor weather conditions such as sun, heat, rain, and wind; frequently work near moving mechanical parts, and with fumes; and occasionally work in high precarious places, with toxic or caustic chemicals, and with vibration. Loud noise is typical for work environment. Employee may occasionally be required to change work hours or work beyond normal quitting time.
