Individuals in these positions are not eligible for benefits and are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.Summary - The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of on-site and outreach programs. The position includes day-to-day office duties, scheduling educational programming, implementing tours, and working with staff on the creation of new and upcoming programming and exhibits. The incumbent will also lead programs including camps, school programs, tours, and events. This position may also act as manager on duty, facilitate museum store sales, and perform front desk, administrative, and groundskeeping jobs as needed. Drives county vehicles to countywide locations delivering supplies and supporting programs.Responsibilities:Implementation of Programming: Facilitates, coordinates, and implements programming for Pre-K to 12th grade school groups, families, scouts, and camps. Secure all educational materials on time. Ensure the tidiness of the program spaces. Responsible for set-up and clean-up of all programs. Assist in the coordination of public programming, tours, and community outreach. Identify/produce educational program materials to teach the programs. Secure staff and volunteer support as needed. Collect data to evaluate programs.Creation of Programming: Monitor the effectiveness of current programs to identify opportunities for change. Develop on-site and outreach educational programs (e.g. schools, scouts, and families). Assist in logistic planning for new programming. Research as assigned to create programming.Administrative: Provide customer service support to event participants by responding to telephone and email communications about events and programs. Manage reservations and collect deposits and fees. Keep quarterly inventories of educational supplies. Purchase educational materials to teach the programs. Assist in scheduling programs and communicate with leaders and participants. Coordinate logistics for public programs (may include booking speakers, processing invoices, stocking program materials). Work directly with the Visitor Services Manager to book educational programs with the Fairfax County Public Schools, regional school systems; and market education programs to school systems and individual schools, including producing marketing materials, meeting with potential customers, offering teacher in-services, etc. Assist in the creation of marketing materials, social media, or press releases for programming. Prepare materials for volunteer recruitment and training to support activities. Actively participate in staff training and department meetings.Facility Operations: Serve as manager on duty, facilitate store sales, and perform front desk, administrative, and groundskeeping jobs as needed. Open and close facilities. Inspect facilities and adjacent areas and ensure they are presentable, safe, and acceptable for public use. Have thorough knowledge of Park Authority policies and procedures for handling emergency situations in the park. Enforce rules and regulations and professionally handle any infractions. Greet the public and provide technical information both in person and by telephone. Exercise initiative and good judgment when responding to citizen's inquiries pertaining to natural, historical, and environmental issues. Process sales and class registrations at the front desk. Participate in staff meetings. Support the Visitor Center as needed including one weekend day a week.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in education, history, museum studies, or a related field.Experience presenting programs to individuals or groups or working with children and/or families.Knowledge of diversity and inclusion best practices to communicate effectively with diverse ages, backgrounds, and all abilities.Proficiency with common digital productivity programs (Microsoft Office), social media platforms, and digital communications platforms.Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.The ability to communicate clearly and be comfortable discussing difficult subjects, i.e. the institution of slavery, etc.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with the design and delivery of innovative, creative, high quality, and developmentally appropriate programs for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.Works well independently and in a team environment; adaptable and solution-oriented.Experience building and maintaining relationships with community partners, including other sites, museums and organizations, K-12 schools and institutes of higher education, and government officials.Excellent organizational skills: self-motivated with the ability to manage goals and productivity.Strong communication skills and a significant ability to get along with many different types of people.Energetic and personable; an innovative, creative thinker.Necessary Special Requirements:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.Reasonable accommodations are available to persons with disabilities during application and/or interview processes per the Americans with Disabilities Act.
