Job Description

Overview: Benjamin Moore has an opening for a Production Manager to lead the paint manufacturing department at our manufacturing plant in Newark, NJ. The Production Manager is responsible for directing and managing the daily operations of the department, reporting to the Manufacturing Manager. The Production Manager will work closely with direct reports and colleagues to promote a safe workplace, ensure consistent quality, coordinate manufacturing, maintenance activities to support the manufacturing process, and drive the continuous improvement process leading to operational excellence. Responsibilities: Management of all aspects of the manufacturing department operations across multiple shifts including staffing, procurement, maintenance, production planning, batchmaking, packaging, quality control, and shipping/receiving. Communicate clear expectations to all direct reports across departments in meeting overall company objectives. Leadership is expected to be governed by developing and fostering a culture of transparency, collaboration, trust and respect as daily deliverables are executed Implement and enforce all environmental, health, safety and security programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness. Ensure the highest standards for product quality and drive the quality system within the production operations. Ensure that policies and procedures are effectively implemented to continually optimize the plants performance in achieving key metrics. Is responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels by ensuring recruitment efforts are executed in a timely fashion. Leads department teams typically consisting of 3-5 direct reports and 40-60 indirect reports. Ensure that cost is controlled and tracking mechanisms are in place and reviewed for continuous improvement. Be a decision maker and problem solver for the site. Will be required to make critical decisions to maximize efficiency and manpower and to troubleshoot issues as they occur. Actively coaches and provides feedback to employees to support the ongoing growth and development of their leadership competencies. Engaging their teams to cultivate improvement and efficiency suggestions. Has fundamental knowledge of the department operations so can act as resource to troubleshoot issues, remove roadblocks, and identify/implement improvements. Write, review, and update work instructions to support consistent production performance. Regularly audits work of team to ensure it meets expectations for safety, quality, and productivity. Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department goals and activities. Evaluate and adjust staffing levels, shift schedules, and OT requirements as needed to meet production demand requirements. Ensures all safety, environmental and regulatory guidelines and rules are known and followed; all required safety equipment is available and used as prescribed. Promptly addresses issues related to safety and actively coaches and reinforces safety expectations with team. Communicate and enforce safety regulations and company policies to employees. Utilizes 5S, Lean and Continuous Improvement methodology to identify, implement, and sustain process improvements. Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste per regulations as required. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Business, Engineering, or other technical degree preferred) Previous production or plant manager experience is essential. Preference for 5+ years experience in this capacity, leading manufacturing activities. The ability to work in a matrixed organization is essential. Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels. Demonstrated ability to handle employee relation issues and facilitate conflict resolution. Establish strong working partnership with HR.
