The opportunity Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Software Engineering Technology Services, the Director of Software Engineering for Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is both a strategic and technical leadership role focused on overseeing the development of software solutions and community of practice that enhance the educational experience, improve administrative processes, and support the SNHU's mission. We ask that you have technical leadership to address the unique challenges and opportunities that SNHU faces as a market leader in the higher education sector. This role can be remote based on our approved states we can employ from. #LI-Remote What you'll do: You will lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, including managers, and technical staff. You will foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the development team. You will conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth for team members. You will be intracule in strategic planning and execution. You will develop a comprehensive software development strategy aligned with the institution's academic and administrative goals. You will Identify development projects to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff in collaboration with the Portfolio Team You will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of solutions, ensuring and within-budget completion. You will ensure the use of best practices in software development, including coding standards, testing, and deployment. You will stay informed about latest technologies and industry trends to inspire creativity and maintain a competitive edge. You will collaborate with academic and administrative departments and roles to define technical requirements and translate them into software solutions. You will align with the QA team to maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality software products. You will ensure compliance with relevant educational standards, regulations, and security protocols. You will monitor and address software performance, security vulnerabilities, and other technical issues. You will lead a development community of practice focused on standards, tools and methodologies. You will work with academic departments, administrative offices, BTS and ITS colleagues, and other partners to ensure cohesive and integrated software development. You will act as a liaison between the development team and senior leadership, communicating progress, challenges, and strategic programs. You will manage the software development budget, including resource allocation, project costs, and tool acquisition. You will improve resource use to maximize efficiency and productivity within the development team. Other responsibilities as assigned What we're looking for: 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Degree(s): Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field 13+ years of equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable Experience working within or developing software solutions for the higher education sector. Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum). Proficiency in multiple programming languages and software development tools. Experience with cloud computing, DevOps practices, and modern software architectures. Familiarity with educational technologies, learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS) and CRM (Salesforce). Exceptional leadership, team-building, motivational and communication skills. We would like to see: Master's degree Experience in higher education IT or edtech industry. Background in managing geographically distributed teams. Familiarity with data privacy regulations and accessibility standards in education. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
