Job Summary The Controller is responsible for directing UMC accounting functions, overseeing the preparation of GAAP financials, payroll preparation, tax returns, audits, and monthly and annual financial statements Reports to: Job Specific Responsibilities Daily assignments may include but are not limited to: • Coordinate and assist with annual financial audit • Collaborate with executive leadership team on review and implementation of new contracts, maintaining existing contracts, and any changes to contractual relationships that impact recording of cost accounting, payroll reporting, or financial data in any way • Assist with the annual budget process. Ensure the accuracy of budgeting information and provide insight into recommended budget levels and related information • Oversee a team of 5+ subordinate staff; responsible for hiring, coaching, training, employee engagement, performance management, and disciplinary actions for staff • Oversee payroll process ensuring it is prepared timely and accurately • Supervise and monitor accounts payable activities in accordance with financial and internal control policies. Ensure all payments are processed accurately and timely • Reviews monthly financial statements for accuracy and to ensure they are in accordance with GAAP. • Maintains supporting accounting/financial information records. Assures that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and reviewed by the appropriate supervisor to ensure accuracy • Trains, educates, and explains accounting/financial information to Directors and other stakeholders through informal and formal meetings • Monitor compliance with State and Federal regulations related to tax returns, unclaimed property, DOL, etc.. Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field • + 5 years of experience in Accounting or Bookkeeping, preferably in healthcare accounting • + 2 years of leadership experience, leading people and/or processes Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations N/A Skills and Abilities • Certified Public Accountant is a plus • Knowledge of accounting standards accepted by GAAP • Knowledge of Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement regulations related to Cost Reporting • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing; Must speak English fluently • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Access spreadsheets Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This position will interact daily with accounting staff. Frequent contact with department directors and upper-level management for obtaining and reporting information used for decision-making Physical Capabilities This position requires sitting for extended periods of time, often looking at a computer. Typing, visual and audio acuity is required continuously. Must be able to speak in front of small to medium size audiences.
