Overview of Position We are seeking a skilled and experienced HVAC & Smart Building Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering and is primarily responsible for implementing technologies and designing projects under our Smart Building category here at Groove. This person will leverage their technical skills to understand client needs, specifications, create scopes of work, technical drawings, and submittals. They will oversee the IoT integration and optimization of hardware and software systems, including HVAC systems, smart thermostats, lighting, lockers, leak detection, and EV charging stations, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together to provide energy-efficient, sustainable, and intelligent building solutions. Additionally, they will work with Sales and Project Managers to deliver on all project requirements What you'll own HVAC & Smart Thermostats: Select, design, configure, and maintain smart thermostats and HVAC controls to optimize energy usage. Monitor real-time data and adjust settings to maximize efficiency and occupant comfort. Ensure HVAC and smart thermostat integration with building management systems (BMS) for seamless operation. Troubleshoot and optimize HVAC systems for enhanced building performance and energy savings. Smart Building System Design & Integration: Design and implement smart building infrastructure with a focus on HVAC system integration. Integrate hardware and software solutions, including smart thermostats, smart lighting, EV chargers, smart lockers, and IoT-enabled building systems. Develop and optimize system architectures to ensure interoperability, functionality, and efficiency of HVAC systems. Hardware Management: Select, design, configure, and maintain building automation hardware such as sensors, controllers, gateways, and HVAC-specific components. Monitor and troubleshoot hardware, particularly HVAC components, for optimal performance. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for HVAC troubleshooting, training, and maintenance. Software Management: Manage building management system (BMS) software platforms, including SmartRent, Della, Level, and GeoKey, with a priority on HVAC and smart thermostat controls. Configure and optimize smart building software to ensure efficient energy management, space utilization, and occupant comfort, especially within HVAC systems. Implement software updates, patches, and system enhancements, with a focus on HVAC system performance. Use analytics platforms to monitor HVAC performance, energy consumption, and occupant behavior, recommending strategies for optimization. Smart Lighting : Design and manage smart lighting systems for energy efficiency and user convenience. Program lighting systems for automated schedules, occupancy sensors, and daylight harvesting. Smart Lockers: Implement and manage secure smart locker systems for package management and building services. Ensure the integration of locker systems with building access control and tenant software platforms. Leak Detection Systems: Select and implement leak detection systems to prevent water damage and ensure building safety. Integrate leak detection systems with the overall building management platform for real-time monitoring and automated responses. EV Chargers: Select and configure electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Monitor usage data and perform diagnostics to ensure reliable service. Troubleshooting & Support: Provide training to support staff for troubleshooting HVAC and all smart building systems. Conduct root-cause analysis and resolve technical issues in a timely manner. Offer training and support to building operators and tenants on the use of smart building technologies, particularly HVAC systems. Collaboration & Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, PMs, and IT specialists to ensure project success, prioritizing HVAC integration. Consult with clients to understand their HVAC requirements and tailor smart building solutions to meet their needs. Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, with a focus on HVAC-related tasks. Experience and skills you'll have Bachelor's degree in engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience. Must have 3+ years of experience designing, specifying, and/or installing HVAC systems. Experience in smart building systems, building automation, and IoT technologies is highly desirable. Proficiency in building management software (BMS), HVAC, and lighting control systems. Strong understanding of networking, IoT protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Zigbee), and integration technologies. Experience with smart thermostats, lighting, EV chargers, and smart lockers. Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems, including HVAC.
