GENERAL LABOR (Foundry and Grinding Departments) Location: 7736 E. Springfield Ave., Selma CA 93662 Job Type: Full Time-Hourly Department: Foundry and Grinding Departments Opened Until Filled OPEN UNTIL FILLED Classification: Non-exempt Compensation: $16.50 PH Foundry Schedule: Monday through Friday (occasional Saturdays) 5:00 AM - 1:30PM Grinding Schedule: Monday through Friday (occasional Saturdays) 5:30 AM - 2:00PM Reports to: Foundry and/or Grinding department Supervisor(s)/Manager(s) POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for performing a variety of duties to make products that involve melting and pouring metal while supporting the direct labor operations of the foundry department. Grinds and smooths surfaces of items, such as sprinklers, specialty products, etc., prior to finishing operations by performing essential duties and responsibilities while supporting the grinding department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Foundry): Shaking out molds and placing jackets and weights on each mold Moves sand, castings or other foundry materials onto conveyor Operating hand tools, machines and other foundry equipment Breaks sand molds from finished casting, using bar or hammer Pulls reinforcing wires from castings off of conveyor Visually inspect products for defects Assist all molders and at the appropriate time, dumping the poured molds into the shaker unit Successfully complete safety training, and demonstrate ability to comply with company safety and environmental policies and guidelines Maintain and perform housekeeping of general shop, including sweeping and shoveling sand, knocking out cores, cleaning cores, loading and unloading various materials Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations Good attendance is an essential function of the job. Performs any and all other job-related tasks as assigned ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Grinding): Examine and feel the surface of the workplace for defects. Start the grinder and move the surface of the workplace to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess material, and burrs. Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts. Operate a stand or pedestal grinder to remove fins, parting lines, gates, risers, rough spots, and other excess metals from a variety of castings in accordance with specifications. The incumbent may be called upon to operate portable grinders. Work with small to medium-sized castings. Work is subject to inspection and checks, with instructions given on new work or variations in requirements. Grind to maintain contours, present smooth surfaces, etc. The operator sorts, stacks, and moves castings as directed. Grinding wheels must be changed and dressed as necessary. Good attendance is an essential function of the job. Performs any and all other job-related tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Qualifications and Skills High School Diploma or equivalent Experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment is preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to work different shifts per season demand REASONING ABILITIES: Requires the use of some judgment to comply with instructions, follow prescribed methods, and make minor decisions regarding setups, operations, and processes. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear. The job may involve difficult work positions for brief periods. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Concentrated efforts are required for periods of 1 to 15 minutes. Continuous mental or visual attention is needed with constant alertness to maintain tolerances and follow established sequences. Constant alertness and good safety work habits are necessary to prevent bodily injury.
