Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Review work orders and pull available print(s), standard work, specifications to determine the required components and design requirements. Generate routings and standard work for Elgin Sweeper product utilizing lean principles and a quality mindset. Serve as a lead manufacturing engineer for the fabrication area. Providing proper documentation, training, and communication of product/process related information to line supervision and shop personnel. Perform time studies to facilitate process improvements. Suggest and work with Design Engineering to make improvements in the design of product or system to reduce cost, improve quality and manufacturability of parts and assemblies. Utilize lean principles to implement changes as a leader, participant, and initiator. Lead process improvement projects in a production environment. Investigate and make recommendations on the procurement of equipment to improve the manufacturing process and/or assembly of Elgin Sweeper products. Process Engineering Change Notices in a timely manner, communicate those changes to the appropriate shop personnel and update standard work as required. Improve safety in manufacturing by analyzing current and proposed manufacturing processes by looking to reduce material handling, improve the ergonomics or safety improvement opportunities. Develop and maintain standard work for assigned areas and processes. Process action items, non-conforming material, and Corrective Action Requests in a timely manner. Provide assistance to Marketing when needed by supplying labor and material costs for special equipment. Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned. Position Requirements Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university required. Minimum of 3 years experience in manufacturing required. Ability to demonstrate strong welding knowledge is required. Experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes that include metal forming (brake press) experience highly desired. Experience with process and tooling design for a steel-based product is required. Experience in a production environment required: Lean/Six Sigma, set-up reduction highly desired. Minimum of 2 years demonstrated project management experience and skills with results in achieving targeted deliverables in product performance, cost and schedule required. Prior pull systems or cellular manufacturing experience is preferred. Must possess and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be PC literate with daily working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets. Experience in using AutoCAD/Inventory required. Experience with JD Edwards is a plus.
