The 189-room IU Biddle Hotel is the largest hotel in Bloomington, Ind., the only hotel on campus, and a living embodiment of Hoosier hospitality. Job Summary Department-Specific Responsibilities Performs tasks related to the cleanliness and upkeep of IU Hotel guest rooms and/or campus residential and guest spaces. May perform occasional duties in support of other needs, such as laundry or general maintenance. Cleans and prepares hotel rooms for both arriving guests and for intermediate in-stay service for existing guests daily. Ensures all furnishings in each guest rooms are free of evidence of a previous guest and that all items are in working order and ready for new guests daily and meets the Biddle standard of guest room inspection. General Responsibilities Performs room inspections to ensure proper adherence to cleanliness standards. Completes cleaning tasks such as removing and changing dirty linens; cleaning and disinfecting floors, hard surfaces, bathrooms, and fixtures; cleaning hallways, corridors, etc.; removing trash; vacuuming; dusting; and restocking amenities, linens, and paper products. Completes cleaning log and reports status of rooms, escalating issues as needed. Maintains preventive maintenance schedule, including coordination of deep cleaning, stain treatment, and replacement of damaged items. May perform general maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, as well as periodic deep cleaning. May provide directions and general information to IU visitors and guests in the Biddle Hotel and residential spaces. May provide guidance to lower-level housekeepers or temporary staff. Qualifications EDUCATION Required High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years of experience in housekeeping, custodial work, or related field SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Highly thorough and dependable Working Conditions / Demands This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs, bend, and crouch. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Work Location IU Biddle Hotel Bloomington, Indiana Advertised Salary $16.48 per hour Salary plan and grade: SM 2HH This is an AFSCME union covered position. Work Hours Variable schedule including weekends and some holidays, mostly between the hours 8:00 am and 5:00 pm but dependent on business volume.
