This role is located at the Courtyard by Marriott Chicago DowntownMagnificent Mile!SummaryThe Director of Engineering serves as the strategic leader for the hotel's Engineering department, overseeing building maintenance, grounds upkeep, guest and associate satisfaction, and financial performance. This role ensures that engineering operations meet brand standards and customer needs while maximizing department profitability. As a member of the executive committee, the director develops and implements strategies to meet the expectations of guests and associates.The position also focuses on long-term asset protection and manages capital expenditures to maximize returns for the owner and White Lodging. Ultimately, the director is responsible for aligning engineering operations with the overall success of the property.What You'll DoLead hotel maintenance to meet company, brand, and guest standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, laws, and safety regulations.Oversee and schedule repairs and preventive maintenance for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other systems, coordinating contracted projects and capital expenditures.Train, supervise, and develop engineering staff, delegate tasks, and ensure smooth daily operations while maintaining safety and efficiency.Manage operational costs, prepare budgets, and review utility reports to identify energy-saving opportunities.Serve as a key point of contact for emergencies, coordinating life safety and fire systems, and handling emergencies effectively.Act as a technical liaison across departments and assume MOD responsibilities in the General Manager's absence.What You'll BringExperience leading in a union environment is preferred, with knowledge of union labor issues where applicable.Certification as a Pool Operator is required within six months, with additional trade certifications (HVACR, EPA) being advantageous.Strong leadership and management skills, with expertise in handling priorities, heavy workloads, and job-related travel.Proficiency in using computers, including property management systems, project management systems, and software for word processing and -depth knowledge of White Lodging Way, budgeting, energy conservation, environmental regulations, and vendor relationships.Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to train, support, and execute company policies and standards across various properties.EDUCATIONEXPERIENCEBachelor's Degree, preferably in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction, or Business, or extensive practical work experience in facilities managementAt least 5 years of experience in Hospitality Facilities ManagementHas held previous positions of Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering in large select or full-service propertyExperience in leading facilities, construction and renovation projectsFULL TIME BENEFIT OVERVIEWMedical, Dental, and VisionShort- and Long-Term Disability and Life InsuranceEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)401(k)Paid Time Off to include Vacation, Holidays, & SickTuition ReimbursementComplimentary and Discounted Rooms
