The Location: This position is located in New York, NY reporting fully on-site Monday to Friday. Job Overview: Responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of all Gemological Institute of America facilities in New York and New Jersey, by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs general office errands and maintenance, i.e., light bulbs, bottled water, etc. Performs shipping & receiving duties including, but not limited to accepting and signing for deliveries at freight entrance, distributing to addressees, packing and shipping outgoing (non-inventory) packages. Processes outgoing mail utilizing a postage meter and other shipping methods. Ex. FedEx, UPS, etc. Processes received shipments in Workday or alternate electronic tracking systems. Maintains responsibility for distribution, storage and inventory of daily operational supplies (i.e., forms such as diamond grading reports, plastic sleeves, laminate rolls, stationery supplies, etc.). Contact person for hazardous waste vendor and escort of vendor throughout the bldg. Maintains storage facilities. Serves as escort to vendors and tradesmen while on GIA premises according to security protocol. Fills in occasionally for security officers, escorting guests and vendors for other departments. Moves furniture, file cabinets, equipment and other as directed. Performs minor "handyman" tasks, repairs of facility and equipment. Participates in setting up conference rooms and common areas for events. Maintains a safe and clean working environment. Communicates effectively, works well with coworkers and management, and deals with others effectively and professionally under pressure TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) Reliable and organized. High standards of quality control, workmanship, and attention to detail. Excellent verbal communication skills. Basic understanding of computers including MS Office. Customer service and organizational skills required. Driver's License required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in custodian field preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. This position includes a great deal of movement throughout the GIA premises and some moderate lifting and carrying. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
