This role involves deploying and maintaining servers in accordance with University and College policies, standards, and guidelines. This position requires a strong working knowledge of server operating systems (Linux and Windows) hosted in a virtual environment and storage area network. These systems support operations in two 24-hour hospitals that require high availability and security. This position will be responsible for maintaining physical server hardware. Essential Functions Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Technical Design and Implementation: Provides technical design, implementation, maintenance, system administration, and support for hardware, software, network, and instructional technology. Utilizes virtualization and VDI technologies such as VMWare vSphere/Horizon. Server Management: Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers. Ensure high availability and security. Perform regular security audits and apply updates and patches as needed. Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve technical problems, provide training, and maintain comprehensive documentation. Collaboration and Analysis: Coordinate with management to analyze business procedures and develop effective IT solutions. Participate in projects and cross-functional activities related to IT initiatives and processes. On-call Support: Provide on-call support for designated systems or services as needed. Occasional night and weekend work may be required to perform maintenance tasks or troubleshoot systems. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications This position is advertised at two levels: Associate Systems Engineer: High school diploma and 8 years of relevant experience OR Associate's degree and 4 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree and no relevant experience. Typical starting salaries are between $54,367-$63,433 Systems Engineer: High school diploma and 11 years of relevant experience OR Associate's degree and 7 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience. Typical starting salaries are between $68,200-$81,100 Relevant IT experience in the administration of distributed computer systems, preferably in a university setting. Substitution allowed for Education : When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education. Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications Minimum Skills and Abilities Effective Communication: Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to the non-technical customer and interact professionally with a diverse group of users and support staff. Project Management: Demonstrated ability to initiate, track, and successfully manage multiple detailed projects simultaneously. Technical Proficiency: Advanced understanding of server infrastructure and operating systems. Ability to test and troubleshoot vulnerabilities in software and hardware. Minimum Technology Skills Minimum License and Certifications Desired Qualifications Desired Qualifications Work experience managing a virtual desktop environment. Work experience utilizing Linux command line tools. Work experience supporting storage area networks. Work experience supporting database servers (SQL, Oracle, Postgres) Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field.
