The primary purpose of the Medical Dietitian position is to assess the nutritional status of offenders and make recommendations to provider regarding optimal medical nutrition therapy. The following is a summary/list of responsibilities: Will complete nutrition assessment of the offender and counsel on therapeutic diet compliance. Will provide nutrition in-services to food service and medical staff? Will serve as the liaison between Food Management and the Medical Departments, assuring therapeutic diet orders are written per the DAC - Prisons policy as well promoting accurate implementation of therapeutic diets. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Master's degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); or Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
