You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing heavy and highway civil estimating, focused primarily on mass earthwork, building excavation/backfill, shoreline reconstruction, and site utilities for clients ranging from large, National GCs and government agencies through Chicagoland local developers. Responsibilities will include participation in the entire estimating / proposal process from client interactions, selection of proposed projects, quantity take-off, supplier and subcontractor solicitation, scope writing, and contract review. You will be cross trained into project management to be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing excavation/sewer and water projects within the decided-upon budget, timeline, and scope. You will learn to define each projects objectives and oversee quality control and safety throughout its life cycle. JKC = Earthwork, Site and Structural Demolition, Shoreline and Ravine Conservation, Utility Construction (storm, sanitary, and water piping), and Prime Contracting. Review and approval of "pre-contract" proposals. Maintain estimating schedule Update of management on status of estimating schedule Quantity estimating and estimate building Subcontractor and supplier solicitation Scope writing and Contract Review Manage estimating databases / estimating software Evaluate and adapt to current market conditions and costs Project diversity analyses and incorporation into proposals as required Working with Project Managers on job cost development PM Responsibilities to learn: Develop Project Schedule Contract Review & Implementation Submittal preparation & tracking Subcontractor solicitation & management (subcontracts and purchase orders) Attend Progress Meetings Pay Estimates & Change Orders Coordinate job progress and success with project superintendent Manage job costs, production reporting, forecasting, and AP Invoice Approval Coordinate vendors, suppliers and subcontractors Monitor project deliverables Update team members on the project progress Other duties as assigned. Required experience: Excellent communication, time management, multi-task prioritization and organizational skills Strong desire to work in the construction industry Bachelor's degree in construction management, or civil engineer related plus 3+ years of related work experience Proactive, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to resolve potential issues or conflicts. Proficiency in use of computers, tablets, and software programs such as MS365 and other cloud-based software. Working knowledge of applicable sub trades. Knowledge of all industry standards, guidelines, laws, requirements set forth and governed by any and all municipalities A valid drivers license may be required Required Skills: Ability to complete take offs and lump sum bids Attention to Detail Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work with diverse group of individuals / clients Desires to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with employees, Ability to operate in ever changing environment Ability to sit, stand, or walk in various weather conditions for long period of time Ability to read and understand blueprints/drawings and relevant contract documents. Preferred skills / Certificates: CPR / first Aid certified. Thorough understanding of construction safety & OSHA standards.
