Job Description

MHC Healthcare is seeking a Director of Dental Services to join the Dental team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. The Director of Dental Services (Director) provides guidance and mentorship to all staff and, through leadership of the department, aids staff with the business development of the daily operations of the department. As a practicing Dentist, the Director promotes and maintains patients' health by providing dental services and clinical supervision of staff. MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 17 sites in Tucson and Pima County. The following qualifications are required: Doctor of Dentistry degree Current Arizona State DDS/DMD license Current DEA registration and registration in the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy's Controlled Substances Prescription Drug Monitoring program 5 years' experience leading a dental team at a professional level, to include selection of top talent, employee development, and retention Experience managing profit and loss and productivity measures and holding team accountable for results Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (may be completed with MHC upon hire) Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire) Current Arizona driver's license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MHC) The following qualifications are preferred: Experience with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) Experience with mobile dental services Experience with strategic planning and implementation Bilingual (English/Spanish) Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job. This position has the following supervisory responsibility: Manages and monitors work performance of a division or department through direct reports and their teams, including evaluating work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals, and provisioning work and staffing assignments for the department. The ideal candidate will also possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations. Able to perform a wide variety of assignments requiring independent judgment. Strong knowledge of process improvement and facilitation, excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet and deal effectively with patients, associates and the general public. Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures quality of care by assisting in the development of dental protocols which are evidence based and consistent with the characteristics, needs and patients of the practice, the community and the goals and objectives of the organization. Ensures continuity of care by reviewing the capacity and skills of the dental staff and available resources. Provides guidance by assisting in planning service programs and recommending clinical objectives. Provides leadership, mentorship and direction to dental team, assisting in proper oversite of staff and entire department. Steers Dental Department development for the organization by working to resolve medical issues in the Dental Clinic sites. Develops specific short- and long-term plans and programs, along with budgetary requirements for the department. Develops the Dental Department budget and advises executive leadership on major dental purchases, staffing requirements and appropriate contract negotiations. Directs daily operations of the Dental Department providers by providing opportunities for growth and continually evaluating performance and productivity. Coordinates all clinical issues of concern with CCO and works toward prompt resolution. Maintains a patient caseload by devoting appropriate time to both patient care and administrative management functions as required. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients, performing visual examinations, obtaining, updating and studying medical and dental health histories. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting the test results. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Performs therapeutic procedures by ordering and/or administering injections, suturing, managing wounds and infections and performing corrective, preventive and/or restorative procedures. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and development information, providing counseling on problems of daily care and promoting wellness and health maintenance. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. Protects patients and employees by directing and adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by ensuring departmental compliance with procedures, rules and regulations. Complies with federal, state and local professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on required actions. Directs the monitoring, orienting and assisting of dental residents. Develops dental care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities and experiential growth opportunities. Maintains and fosters appropriate communication with the area of responsibility, both internally and with external agencies. Serves on required committees aimed at compliance, quality improvement and management and performs peer reviews as requested. Participates in management meetings and strategic planning for the organization. Maintains Dental Department standards of care by adhering to the Arizona State Board of Dentistry and those of other governing agencies. Works with Risk and Compliance team to ensure the prompt attention and closure of Risk/Non-Risk incidents relating to the Dental Department. Ensures adherence to expectations of required/mandatory in-services, certifications and licensure within the Dental Department. Selects and supports retention of qualified staff in positions within the Dental Department. Ensures provider performance results by coaching, counseling, mentoring, planning, monitoring and evaluating job performance.
