EHTP began in 1958 as a children's reading group and has since grown into a multi-site after-school program for traditional public school students and a network of public charter schools focused on significantly increasing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. We are on track to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, with enrollment for this year at approximately 2200 students in our schools and after school programs. In 2020, 99% of our seniors were accepted to college, and our current scholars in college are on-track to graduate at eight times the national average of their peers. At EHTP we also aim to serve as an agent of change and thoughtfully contribute to the national fight for racial equity. Through our organization-wide commitment to anti-racism work, we prepare our scholars to effect change, challenge the status quo, and thrive in the world around them. As staff members, we face our own racial identities and conscious and unconscious biases. With this in mind, all of our professional development, curriculum, organizational materials, and processes are designed with a goal of racial justice. Read our racial equity statement here.We ground all of our work in racial equity, in our core values, and in our four guiding pursuits: the Revolutionary Pursuit of Love, the Radical Pursuit of Knowledge, the Responsive Pursuit of Healing, and in the Relentless Pursuit of Results. These pursuits inform and are reflected in our current four key strategic priorities: to increase high-impact, high-quality academic curriculum, programming content, staff capacity, and coaching; to embrace and advance our use of technology; to deepen our embodiment of ethical and equitable radical humanity; and to efficiently operationalize teaching, learning, community, and care. For more information about Scholars Academies, please visit us at mission of the Assistant Principal is to actualize the vision for teaching, learning, and care of the Principal and Network Team by organizing and coaching a team of teachers within grades 6th - 8th and teacher-leaders to evaluate, implement, and assess curriculum, assessments, culture systems, and family engagement practices. What are the top 3-6 things the ideal candidate will accomplish in the first 3-5 years?Instructional LeadershipPartner directly with the principal to support implementation of the instructional vision for the schoolEnsure the successful implementation of developmentally appropriate, rigorous curricula and instructional materialsCoordinate with outside professional developers and organizations to provide support andor resources for curriculum development and instructional supportOversee instructional professional development, providing targeted support to teachers where neededProvide support to ensure the instructional needs of all scholars are metTeacher Hiring, Coaching & SupportPartner directly with the principal to hire, coach, and support teachers via a rigorous selection model and robust coaching and professional development programEnsure that instructional staff receives accurate and timely information regarding performance and professional responsibilitiesDrive system for collection of teacher lesson plans and delivery of feedback.Conduct observations and formal performance reviews for teachers and staffImplement and oversee performance improvement plans, as necessaryActively contribute to decisions regarding staff retention and compensationAssessments, Data Analysis & Action PlanningImplement a successful school-wide assessment and data analysis programCreate a timetable for internal and state-mandated external assessment in core subjectsOversee the administration, collection, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from statewide, interim and other assessmentsFacilitate data reflection protocols for the purpose of teacher reflection, improved practice, and programmatic changesGenerate summary student performance reports to be reviewed by Board and Leadership TeamPositive School and Classroom CulturePartner actively with the Director of School Culture & Family Engagement to support teachers to successfully implement the school's instructional modelSupport teachers to build rigorous, nurturing classroom communities that maintain East Harlem Scholars Academies' high academic and social expectations for studentsBuild relationships with families through frequent communication about student progressReflection and Continuous ImprovementActively work to improve own practice to acquire and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary for supporting excellent instruction and to increase overall effectiveness in the school communityAssume responsibility for all scholars' success by holding staff and oneself accountable to expectations set by the East Harlem Scholars Academies communityWho are you and what do you bring?A commitment to equity and anti-racism especially working in traditionally underserved communitiesExtensive familiarity with strong curriculum design and with various assessment and data analysis toolsPrior management experience with a track record of strong academic results in a similar environmentExperience working with diverse populations of students and families across lines of sameness and differenceCommitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional developmentDemonstrated success in significantly raising the achievement levels of studentsStrong self-awareness and awareness of others and the ability to lead adults effectively and manage stakeholder relationshipsStrong personal organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projectsBelief in the East Harlem Scholars Academies mission, education model and core valuesEducational Background and Work ExperienceMinimum 5 years classroom or other relevant experience with strong record of high student achievementMinimum 2 years leadership or other relevant experience coaching and managing teachers to ensure high student achievementAbility to design high-quality staff professional development sessions and toolsMasters Degree in Education, Literacy, or related field preferredPlease note that many do not meet 100% of the desired qualifications.
