Job Description

Position Overview:  The Insurance Finance Manager (Controller) is responsible for the oversight, analysis, and distribution of the company's financial statements. The role will be responsible for managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, including variance analysis to ensure accurate, timely, and relevant financial reporting. Responsible for cash management, oversight of trust agreements, and partnering with investment advisors in the management of CRL's investment portfolios.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIESOperations & Reconciliation: ·       Establishes and maintains the appropriate accounting documentation, systems, and internal controls, processes, and data. ·       Ensure financial information has been recorded accurately and timely. ·       Liaises with stakeholders on receipts & settlements of premiums and claims.·       Oversees reconciliations of monthly bank and investment accounts.·       Supervises accounting staff.Analysis and Reporting:·       Prepares written reports and makes presentations to members, executive director, and other parties.·       Prepares andor reviews monthly, quarterly, annual, and other financial statements.·       Partners with actuaries, auditors, and investment advisors to perform complex data analysis.·       Provides innovative and effective analysis to enhance management and member understanding of complicated financial issues.·       Performs analysis related to member underwriting, self-insured retention changes, experience modification and cost allocation formulas.·       Provides research on new and existing accounting and financial reporting issues.·       Develops cash flow projection, proforma financial statements, and organizational budget.Financial Management:·       Oversees account payable and accounts receivable functions as well as management of general ledger.·       Partners in the budgetforecast process.Strategic Projects and Initiatives: ·       Participates in corporate and strategic projects and initiatives.·       Coordinates board activities, and monitors reporting.·       Interacts with senior management in the development and understanding of strategies.·       Works closely with other departments as needed to complete projects.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES·       Performs other duties as assigned.·       Travels as required.QUALIFICATIONSEducation & LicensingBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably in finance, accounting or economics or a similar degree.  Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), andor Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) preferred.ExperienceSeven (7) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Five (5) years of propertycasualty reinsurance andor propertycasualty insurance experience required.
