Our Company: The American Thoracic Society (ATS) improves global health by advancing research, patient care, and public health in pulmonary disease, critical illness, and sleep disorders. Founded in 1905 to combat TB (Tuberculosis), the ATS has grown to tackle asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), lung cancer, sepsis, acute respiratory distress, and sleep apnea, among other diseases. The Position: Reporting directly into the ATS Associate Director of Marketing, the Manager of Social Media is responsible for developing strategic programs that are creative, engaging, and innovative to leverage social media to promote the ATS, its mission, and activities. This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing various campaigns to promote membership, educational programs and products, international conference marketing, and development. This includes maintaining activity levels on social media platforms and advising ATS staff and members about social media and assisting them with their own activities on behalf of the Society. Finally, the manager is expected to keep abreast of the activities of peercompetitive societies and offer recommendations to enhance the ATS's visibility and reputation. Position Responsibilities: Provide a strategic viewpoint to the role of social media at the ATS. Develop strategic, creative, and innovative plans to leverage social media to promote ATS, its members and activities; these will be both part of larger media relations, marketing, and communications campaigns and standalone campaigns. Conduct routine monitoring of social posts by ATS members and peer societies to understand what they are communicating and share with appropriate staff. Maintain activity (scheduling, publishing and monitoring) on ATS social media channels (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube). This includes posting regularly on all channels, based on best practices and user data. Work with the manager to develop videos for social media including member profiles. In addition to "routine" communications, the position will oversee the use of social marketing activities to promote the International Conference. Track analytics for social media using Meltwater and share monthly status reports. Use these to track trends, suggest opportunities to expand the ATS's social media platforms and reach, particularly to advance the Society's advocacy efforts, market the conference, and engage and grow membership and fundraising. Advise ATS staff, committees, Assemblies and individual members about ATS social media guidelines and best practices. Engage with ATS members on various social media platforms and invite participation as a brand ambassador at the International Conference. Work with media relations staff to engage with specific news reporters and influencers. Create and coordinate social media campaigns involving staff from different departments. This includes providing strategic counsel as to how best to organize such efforts, creating content, coordinating approvals from necessary staff andor members, and implementation. Responsible for monitoring ATS Community email mailbox. Maintain social media database (Meltwater software), tracking all messages posted to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube. Check Google alerts to monitor relevant news coverage. Coordinate with DocMatter representatives.Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or marketing. Minimum 7 years of experience producing professional social media content. Experience with strategic communications planning, especially as it relates to social media. Ability to create simple graphics and edit photos for use on social media. Extensive experience with social media, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Ability to manage software including Meltwater, Adobe Suite, MS Office. Deadline and detail oriented, with strong time management skills. Cooperative personality who enjoys working in a professional and collegial environment. Being both flexible, patient, and accountable will be helpful in working with many stakeholders. Some travel may be required, such as to our annual International Conference. You may experience prolonged periods of sitting andor standing. You may experience repeated typing motions involving your wrists, hands, andor fingers. Pay Range: We are pleased to offer a range of $85-90k for this position.
