LaSalle Network is partnering with a well-known household brand to hire a Director of Transportation. The Director of Transportation will be responsible for overseeing and securing transportation services across various modes, including Truckload, Intermodal and Less-than-Truckload, to meet the companys domestic transportation needs. This role manages all aspects of carrier operations and relationships, from contracts and performance reviews to cost and service efficiency. The director will work to align transportation providers with the companys distribution needs, ensuring optimal service at the lowest cost. This includes handling all product categories, such as finished goods and raw materials, with requirements for both temperature-controlled and ambient transportation. Key duties involve developing strategies and objectives for the transportation function, setting budgets and establishing policies and procedures that align with the companys goals. The Director of Transportation will supervise around 10 employees in the Logistics Department, providing leadership and guidance. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and conducting performance evaluations, while ensuring that team efforts align with company policies and legal requirements.Director of Transportation Responsibilities:Build and oversee a comprehensive transportation networkMeet or exceed transportation-related key performance indicators (KPIs)Provide strategic leadership to develop programs that meet the evolving needs of internal and external customersLeverage expertise in Transportation Management Systems, covering functions such as planning, dispatch, carrier portals and dock schedulingOversee day-to-day transportation operations to ensure goals are metSupervise a team of approximately 10 employees, delegating tasks, monitoring their progress and conducting performance reviewsManage the departments budget and control expensesRegularly review performance against KPIs, implementing corrective actions as neededEnsure compliance with all state and federal regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) requirementsRecruit, train and mentor employees, fostering growth and accountability within the teamDirector of Transportation Requirements:Bachelors degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related field is required; an MBA is preferred but not mandatory6+ years of relevant management experience, ideally in transportationProven experience managing relationships with external service providers and vendorsIn-depth knowledge of transportation contracts, transportation law and carrier operations, including fleet managementExpert understanding of the transportation industry, supply chain processes, best practices and compliance regulationsSkilled in contract negotiationAgile and proactive, with the ability to execute projects effectivelyStrong verbal and written communication skills, capable of delivering executive-level presentationsDemonstrated success in leading teams to meet financial, service and developmental goalsAbility to analyze data from multiple sources and translate insights into actionable improvement strategies This position is critical in driving collaboration across departments, including Logistics, Supply Chain, Sales and Finance, to enhance service levels, efficiency and cost-effectiveness across the transportation network.
