Job Description

The candidate would need to be available Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm. Responsibilities include heavy clerical work, such as drafting letters, legal documents, motions, etc. while also scheduling appointments and court appearances, inputting billable time, and answering calls from courts, clients, attorneys, etc. This position will allow the candidate to work side-by-side with a Partner in a busy criminal law practice, providing invaluable experience learning law firm systems, the laws, the procedures, the Rules, the courts, and the people in the criminal justice system. Responsibilities· Effectively communicate with clients· Create, scan and maintain files in Worldox document library· Perform conflict searches, external searches, and process client intake forms, schedule consultations.· Prepare, review and edit a wide range of legal documents and correspondence of a confidential nature, ensuring high quality, accuracy and comprehensiveness.· Perform duties with due diligence and a proactive approach.· Establish and maintain a current calendar of events and a deadline reminder system for lawyers - schedule meetings and client appointments.· Act as a liaison between assigned lawyer(s) and clients, internal departments and external affiliates including financial institutions, municipal and government departments as requested.· Enter timesheets into time management system for group's attorneys.QualificationsCandidates should have superb organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and complete projects, top notch computer skills. Qualified candidates will have the ability to work independently, maintain confidential and highly sensitive information and be proactive.· Minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a legal assistant;· Proficiency in Microsoft Office;· Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures· Excellent organization and time management skills· Attention to detail and accuracy in work· Strong communication skills, both written and verbalNote: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
