About NY CREATES:NY CREATES is a leading research and development hub as well as a commercialization facilitator in advanced digital, analog, and power technologies.Job Description:Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:The Linux Systems Administrator will assist employees, users, vendors, business partners, and affiliates with technology-related issues.Responsible for installation, patching, account provisioning, and administration of Linux and Windows servers, applications, and data storage systems relating to NY CREATES and its affiliated partners.Liaison with vendor companies, onsite tenants, as well as staff to take business needs and translate them into a technical plan. Troubleshoot hardware, replace parts as needed, and troubleshoot and fix software problems.Performance and capacity management as well as future forecasting.Evaluate products and make informed recommendations on purchases of software and hardware.Develop and routinely test disaster recovery plan.Work as part of a team.Influence work priorities, technical decisions, and operating procedures at the team or project level.Other reasonable duties as assigned.Requirements:MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMust have a minimum of 5 years' experience with Linux server administration and support.Experience installing, configuring & troubleshooting distributed applications.Understanding of basic network typologies and the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, as well as how to integrate them with existing systems; must demonstrate effective problem solving and analytical skills and proficiency with desktop and end user support; demonstrated knowledge of client server and storage environments; possess knowledge of best practices for maintaining information security; ability to handle confidential and sensitive information responsibly.Basic SQL Database use and knowledge.Shell scripting.Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, display patience and understanding when working with other employees who struggle to master new technologies; ability to work calmly and methodically under pressure and against tight deadlines; ability to work within a team as well as independently; demonstrated ability to work and conduct research independently.This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual background checks.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree in information technology, Computer Science degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization OR related field with 2 plus years of experience working in a Linux server environment is recommended.Technical Certificates in Information Technology with 3-4 years of previous experience in a Linux server environment is recommended.Red Hat Linux, Red Hat Satellite, Experience with IBM SiView, DB2, WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Liberty.Experience with creating/supporting/maintaining simple python applications.Additional Information:Benefits:Medical, Vision, and DentalCompetitive Pay and PTOFlexible Heath Spending and Dependent Care AccountsBasic/Optional Life InsurancePost-Retirement Health InsuranceEmployer contribution of 7% of earnings to a Basic Retirement plan after meeting one year of service.Optional employee contributed retirement account.Salary Range$76,000-$93,000 Posted range is determined upon experience and education.Location: 257 Fuller Road, Albany, NY 12203Application Instructions:Employment is with the Research Foundation for SUNY which is an Equal opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), if you have a disability and require a reasonable accommodation to apply, please call Human Resources at 518-437-8686.recblid tbri30i6ignvvtg64r9adybxb8jjlk
