Chief Operating Officer Appian Way Energy Partners is an energy trading firm located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is among the leading firms focused on congestion trading in wholesale competitive electricity markets throughout the US. Appian Way is seeking a Chief Operating Officer with strong leadership, strategy, finance and operations skills.Electricity markets are extremely dynamic and the industry continues to undergo a significant transformation in response to the climate challenge, renewed demand growth, commodity volatility, public policy and technology change.The role of the COO is to oversee the day-to-day operations of a mid-sized asset management operation managing a $300M investment fund. The COO is a member of the executive team and is jointly responsible for setting long-term strategy for the business, managing and leading the organization and interfacing with investors. As a smaller operation, Appian Way has outsourced many support functions and the COO is responsible for coordinating all activities provided by various stakeholders including all legal, finance (including audit & tax), IT/cyber and HR activities. The COO is also responsible for all trade support operations, trading risk management, regulatory and business compliance, and office operations.The COO should be strongly independent, self-motivated and results-oriented with prior proven experiences as a successful senior leader. The COO should be highly numerate with a strong project-management bias, demonstrate the ability to independently drive for results and be an excellent communicator, across all mediums.Job Responsibilities:Executive Leadership (shared responsibilities with Managing Partners)Long-term corporate strategy & visionManage Investor Relations processes and communicationsDetermine & execute management operating systems & processesCoordinate with external legal counsel to execute corporate strategiesTrading/Investment risk management - includes ongoing monitoring of risk parameters & metrics; member of the Investment CommitteeFinanceManaging external vendors to support all finance and accounting operations for the fund, general partner and investment manager entities (e.g., fund administrator, audit, tax and bookkeeper)Tracking internal capital by partner & computing allocation of annual bonus poolManaging all capital movement to support trading activitiesRenegotiating and executing annual renewal of credit agreementManaging all financial operations & reporting activities associated with futures trading business Managing accounts payable & payroll processesComplianceOversee all regulatory (SEC/Finra, CFTC/NFA, FERC), ISO-specific and general business filing and reporting requirements, and have or obtain NFA Series 3 certificationIT/Cyber-security Responsible for managing/overseeing IT vendors; jointly responsible for overall cyber-security programs with CTOHR/Benefits/AdministrationResponsible for all benefits programs offered to employees and coordinating delivery with outside vendors / brokers; responsible for associated components during on-boarding of new employees & termination processesSupervise, manage and develop financial analystsOversee all general office operationsRequirements: MBA with 10-15 years of experience in management / project management positionsExperience in finance or accounting functions a plus but not requiredExperience with power sector / electricity a plus but not requiredTeam-oriented and collaborative.
