JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms and/or oversees nonsterile pharmacy compounding at the Pharmacy. Serves patients by preparing medications; giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care teams; monitoring patient drug therapies.JOB DUTIES1. Nonsterile compounding may include but is not limited to compounding of capsules, oral liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, tablet triturates or lollipops.2. Perform order entry, communicate with providers for the purpose of receiving new prescription orders, clarification of prescriptions or refill authorizations, perform final check on prescriptions, counsel patients and answer questions from patients and providers.3. Monitor inventory levels for re-order of low inventory or expiring chemicals, receive new inventory, ensure maintenance of SDS and Certificates of Analysis, oversee annual inventory and ensure performance of daily, weekly and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.4. Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.5. Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals, counseling patients on drug therapies.6. Oversee pharmacy technicians compounding of preparations, filling and labeling of prescriptions and prepackaging of bulk medications7. Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.8. Standards for quality and safety must be consistently met.9. Receive new inventory, ensure maintenance of SDS and Certificates of Analysis, oversee annual inventory and ensure performance of daily, weekly and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques and finally, ensure that environmental monitoring and verification testing is performed according to policies and procedures.10. Accurately enter prescription orders by reading and interpreting them correctly to prepare the appropriate label.11. Perform a drug utilization review (DUR)12. Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.13. Maintains current knowledge of USP 795/800 and abides by all requirements14. Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL DEMANDS1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.2. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.3. Position requires hand dexterity, attention to detail, performing tasks that require fine motor skills, precision and hand eye coordination.4. Ability to lift up to thirty pounds.5. Employee must be comfortable working with hormones and other potentially hazardous chemicals are used in nonsterile compounding.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE1.
