Role Overview As a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager, you play a crucial role in maintaining efficient operations and ensuring equipment reliability. With expertise in preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and process improvement, you will collaborate with internal teams to minimise downtime and optimise production performance. This role requires advanced technical skills, exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and a proactive approach.Key Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesPreventive Maintenance & Equipment ReliabilityPerform scheduled maintenance tasks on injection moulding machines, auxiliary equipment, and related systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical).Monitor equipment performance, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to prevent disruptions.Suggest and carry out improvements to optimise equipment efficiency and extend operational lifespan.Maintain accurate maintenance records, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Diagnose root causes of equipment issues, implement permanent repairs, and ensure functionality meets required standards.Breakdown Response & TroubleshootingRespond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing and repairing faults efficiently.Apply advanced expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimise downtime and restore production quickly.Technical ExpertiseLeverage technical knowledge of machinery, controls, and process variables to ensure optimal system performance.Stay up to date on safety procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and adhere to all standards and protocols.Collaboration & CommunicationProvide regular updates on maintenance activities, breakdowns, and resolutions to the operations team.Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth production flow, documenting repair procedures and sharing knowledge effectively.Continuous ImprovementActively participate in initiatives focused on optimising processes, enhancing reliability, and improving productivity.Maintain a clean, organised working environment and follow all safety standards.Identify and prioritise equipment for improvement, focusing on reducing downtime and scrap while improving reliability.Qualifications, Experience & SkillsEssentialTime-served Level 3 apprenticeship in a multi-skilled engineering discipline.Demonstrated ability to perform well in a high-pressure environment while maintaining high standards.Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.Proficiency in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Shire Pirana, with accurate record-keeping and reporting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a team-oriented mindset.Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.DesirableExperience with injection moulding, robotics (3+6 axis), and automated packaging systems.A proactive problem solver, capable of recommending and implementing improvements.Self-motivated and able to independently plan and prioritise workload.Familiarity with safety regulations, lean manufacturing principles, and root cause analysis tools such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, and RCPS.PLC experience in troubleshooting, basic programming, and machine fault analysis using ladder logic.Working Hours 4 on 4 off (2 days 7am–7pm and 2 nights 7pm–7am)
