You will lead our Public Policy team and deliver impactful coverage in key areas, including regulation, productivity, education and health, and on the workings of the British state, both inside Whitehall and beyond. The beat is expressly wide-ranging and entrepreneurial, and requires collaboration with colleagues across the FT’s newsroom. The job is deliberately positioned outside the parliamentary lobby, but requires close coordination with Westminster colleagues to explore the gaps between political rhetoric and on-the-ground delivery. This is a role for an energetic and confident reporter who wants to set the agenda. As well as the ability to deliver news and scoops using an extensive contacts book, the successful applicant will be comfortable crunching detail, analysing data and writing about policy issues in full colour from across the UK, in the service of illustrating emerging trends and holding the government to account.
