Job Description

Clinical conversations are the heart of all healthcare. Ufonia automates healthcare conversations, making them accessible to everyone at any time.  We’re doing this by building Artificial Clinical Intelligence. Ufonia’s first product is an AI clinical assistant that conducts routine clinical appointments with patients over the telephone (no smartphone required). We have multiple NHS hospitals and Integrated Care Boards as our customers and are launching our product in the US in the coming weeks. We are backed by Octopus Ventures and Wavemaker 360 as well as prominent UK and US angel investors. We have a growing team of more than 20 enthusiastic, talented, and motivated individuals with a broad range of professional experience from NHS clinicians and operations managers to software engineers, machine learning scientists, and designers. The team is mostly based in the UK (Oxford and London) and the US, with a hybrid working style.RoleAs a Lead Product Engineer, you’ll drive the design and delivery of high-impact features and products for our healthcare customers and users. This role is well-suited to someone who cares deeply about understanding users and is motivated by the opportunity to solve meaningful, complex problems in healthcare. You’ll be a key part of shaping what we build and why – working closely with clinicians, operational staff, and other healthcare professionals to understand their needs in depth. You’ll transform user insights into clear product direction—designing innovative, practical solutions, experimenting with novel approaches, and building robust systems from early concept through to real-world deployment. We’re looking for someone who cares about impact, is comfortable working through ambiguity, and is flexible about the exact path to getting to the right outcome. As a senior member of the team, you’ll have significant autonomy and influence. You’ll collaborate closely with the Chief Product Officer and our North American Product Manager to design and implement new features. You’ll also collaborate tightly with AI researchers, clinicians and fellow engineers to ensure that what we build not only works, but delights — bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI and the practical realities of clinical care. Your work will be deployed to thousands of weekly users.About youRequired skills:Expert proficiency in React and TypeScript with a strong track record of building scalable, user-facing applications.Proven experimentation skills, with the ability to test, iterate, and refine product ideas based on real-world data.Strong opinions on what makes a great product.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.Ability to analyse usage data and use insights to inform product decisions and drive improvements.Passion for AI in Healthcare.Preferred skills:Experience working in a fast-paced startup.Strong visual design and UX skills, with the ability to create intuitive, user-centered interfaces that align with product goals and enhance user experience. The following would be considered a plus: Have worked or built for healthcare in a previous role.Working with or around regulated medical devices. Perks:Competitive salary and equity at a fast-growing startup.Hybrid Working. Flexible leave policy, with 33 days of paid leave (inclusive of bank holidays) plus your birthday on us!Unlimited Books and Learning Allowance.Life at UfoniaWe have a remote-first and flexible working environment. The whole company meets at the Oxford office monthly to align on our goals and celebrate our wins, and with additional time at the London or Oxford offices for team-based workshops.
