Closing date: 05/05/2025 About the Role: The University of Manchester is seeking a dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Advisor to join our Estates and Facilities Directorate. In this role, you will be at the forefront of promoting and ensuring health and safety excellence across the whole of the estate. You will work within a team of health and safety professionals, supporting the implementation of best practices and ensuring full compliance with both current and future health and safety legislation. Key Responsibilities: Support the Senior Health and Safety professionals in planning, managing, and promoting health and safety initiatives across the Directorate. Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety management standards for projects and programmes. Collaborate with the Estates team, University's Safety Services Unit, contractors, and other external parties to ensure full regulatory compliance, particularly in relation to construction projects. Promote a culture of high standards in health and safety management, providing advice and expertise to colleagues, contractors, and project managers. Assist in assessing the competency and service level agreements of contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Conduct regular inspections of construction works and other campus areas to ensure ongoing health and safety compliance. Lead and participate in health and safety forums and workshops, helping to ensure risk assessments and safe systems are fully integrated into all projects. Contribute to the creation of health and safety reports, tracking key performance indicators, accident investigations, and ongoing safety improvements. What We're Looking For: A degree in a relevant subject, accompanied by a qualification in Occupational Safety and Health. A current member of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) with Chartered or Graduate membership (CertIOSH). Extensive experience in health and safety management, ideally within a large, complex, and diverse organization. Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (2015), and experience in managing construction-related health and safety matters. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve health and safety goals. Experience of producing detailed reports and presentations related to health and safety performance. A strong ability to work well within a team and contribute to continuous improvement in health and safety standards. Desirable Qualifications & Experience: Experience advising on health and safety within construction, maintenance, or facilities management. Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) of IOSH is highly desirable. Working Environment: Based on campus with occasional visits to construction sites and other areas within the University. Flexible and hybrid working options available, with an expectation to be on campus for a minimum of 4 days per week.
