Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Radiology Nurse specialist to join the expanding nursing team in the Radiology Department. This dynamic department includes a wide range of x-ray-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The unique and varied nature of the specialty means that there is always something new and interesting to learn. Due to the diversity of patients who attend for treatment, the Radiology Nurse has the ability to care for a wide range of patients of all ages, from Emergency, Medical, Surgical, stroke and urological specialties. The Radiology nurses are vital team members, fulfilling the role of pre-procedure, circulating and recovery nurse roles, as well as organizing the patient's pre- and post-procedure care. The role includes working in Interventional, CT, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound. The Radiology Department is formed of a small team of nurses that work alongside the larger multi-disciplinary team which includes Radiographers, Radiologists, Healthcare Assistance and Administration Staff. This position would allow for role expansion in areas such as cannulation, venepuncture, caring for sedated patients, MPI stressing and nurse-led clinics. The unit is committed to the training and development of staff so further development in this role would be encouraged. ResponsibilitiesTo provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care within the Radiology Department. Contribute to the continuing development of the department, undertake audits and support change and improvement. Provide total care of the patient, monitoring their condition and providing both physical and physiological support during diagnostic and interventional procedures. Support the Senior Nursing Team and take charge in the absence of senior nurses. To supervise junior staff and teach registered and unregistered nursing students. Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesTo be able to assist with interventional procedures being able to undertake the role of patient advocate, circulating and recovery nurse for complex cases. Manage care of complex patients pre and post procedure. To comprehensively assess patients needs and have knowledge of the systems to plan, implement, deliver and evaluate nursing care within the radiology setting. Can anticipate patients needs and reduce problems and risks with prompt solutions and actions. To be able to work in collaboration with other health professionals to promote seamless patient care delivery. To maintain good nursing records, ensuring relevant information and outcomes are documented in the appropriate manner and in accordance with trust policy. Demonstrate sound knowledge of the principles of infection control and the highest standards when performing aseptic techniques. To ensure the correct storage and rotation of drugs within the department. To ensure the correct storage and rotation of interventional equipment. To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to. To assist in the smooth running of patient flow through the department including communication with the clinical areas about preparation and follow-up care for patients. Ensure nursing staff under your supervision have a clear understanding of their duties, responsibilities and the standards of performance and conduct expected of them. Person specificationEducation and QualificationsFull and current NMC PIN. Evidence of studying at degree level. ExperienceWorking in Radiology. Ability to work autonomously & as part of a team. Ability to support learners. MPI stress leaders course. Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrate ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care. KnowledgeEvidence of further learning.
