Position Summary & Responsibilities: This new role will lead the HESS activities across UK sites, providing both practical, hands-on support to the business as a whole and regulatory and compliance advice and support to the leadership team. The primary responsibility will be to advise Managers and Staff on relevant aspects of safety, health, environmental and security matters to ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations. Promote a positive Safety First culture across the business; this will include some direct training of staff and regular audit/compliance monitoring of risk key areas. Based at Westcott, Aylesbury the role will also be required to lead as safety advisor to the Cheltenham site, and the Ireland sites, attending both sites on a regular basis. Core Responsibilities Regulation & Compliance Be the competent person in the application of the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Companies business. Keep the company up to date with changes in current legislation bringing to the attention of the leadership team any relevant new legislation, that may be an impact or require change. In line with legal requirements, wider Corporate directives, contractual requirements and best practice develop and maintain a HESS strategy with the Space and site leadership teams, which will ensure Space operates to the highest safety and other HESS standards at all times Prepare, develop, maintain, review, and communicate all company core HESS documents according to Corporate and Government guidelines Attend such courses/seminars run by external sources to allow accurate interpretation of legislation and enable continuous improvement within the organisation. Deliver the company Sustainability Strategy, particularly in areas of Employee Safety and Well-being, and Environmental Stewardship. Prepare relevant reports and presentations to ensure sustainability information is embedded across the business. Own the Health, Environmental, Safety and Security leadership of both our Westcott and Cheltenham sites with attendance on both sites on a regular basis (not less than fortnightly). Deliver robust and concrete site Emergency Actions plans and Incident Prevention Plans that are supported by demonstrated training programmes. Foster and develop a safety first culture that is embedded within the organisation and forms the standard behaviours of all staff. Drive to an integrated model of safety within the IOSH framework Westcott is a Lower Tier COMAH site and as such the role will be expected to support the business in meeting our COMAH obligations. Review and Report Maintain the companys Risk Register ensuring this isa living document, supporting functional/area leaders as required to ensure consistent safe practice Conduct health and safety, environmental and security inspections, prepare reports and ensure delivery of agreed action plans for all the companys operations. Lead on investigations into accidents and near-miss incidents Toidentifyandarrangehealthandmedicalsurveillanceforallstaffasmaybe required. In support of the HR function, assist in directing and administering all required health and safety related training/certification for all employees to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance and or industry. Ensure all hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams are identified, managed, recorded, stored and disposed of in accordance with procedures and current legislation. Utilising aspects of Lean Six Sigma and 5S, ensure a program of Housekeeping is embedded and maintained within the business operational areas, including education of staff, delivery of training, developing housekeeping solutions with area owners, implementing, monitoring and reporting as required. Minimum Requirements: Environmental qualified(IEMA or other similar qualification) with experience in environmental management (equivalent by experience with a commitment to secure qualification is acceptable) Proven health and safety experience within an engineering and operational environment, such as energy,chemical or manufacturing. Experience of working in a COMAH regulated environment and demonstrating thorough understanding of COMAH regulations and best practice. Experience of engagement with the Health and Safety Executive and Environmental Agency would be an advantage.
