We care for 475,000 in our secondary care catchment population, with a wider peninsula population of almost 2,000,000 people who can access our specialist services.Delivering our services through a number of key sites across Plymouth and the surrounding area:Mount Gould Hospital - We have 30 beds for general rehabilitation plus 15 beds for stroke rehabilitation patients and a discharge assessment unit with 10 beds available and a further 30 to follow. South Hams Community Hospital - We have 15 beds here and began managing the site in 2021. Tavistock Hospital - We have 13 beds here and began managing the site in 2021. Urgent Treatment Centre and Minor Injuries Units - We run an Urgent Treatment Centre at the Cumberland Centre in Devonport, central Plymouth and minor injury units in Tavistock and Kingsbridge. Child Development Centre - Developmental services for young children are provided at the Child Development Centre, Scott Business Park. The Plymouth Dialysis Unit - Patients needing treatment for renal failure are cared for in state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities in Estover. Radiology Academy - The Plymouth Radiology Academy is the only purpose-built Radiology Academy in the world and provides an inspirational environment in which to learn radiology.We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Plymouth and working with Plymouth Marjon University. This post is open to female applicants only.The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate and maintain a high standard of imaging and communication skills within this busy unit. A proactive approach to maintaining CPD is expected. The workload will involve screening and symptomatic imaging, assessment, and one-stop clinics. Also able to provide x-ray guidance during interventional and localisation procedures. Training in contrast enhanced mammography will be necessary on appointment.A genuine occupational qualification applies to this post under section 6 of the Sex Discrimination Act of 1975 and therefore it is restricted to female applicants only.***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who can display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***Detailed Job Description And Main ResponsibilitiesTo undertake mammography examinations of diagnostic quality in the breast imaging department at Derriford Hospital, the static screening unit in Plymouth City Centre and on the mobile mammography screening unit at the various sites across the outlying catchment area. Ability to drive and assess to a car is essential for this role. To undertake digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) examinations on patients/clients as required. To undertake contrast enhanced spectral mammography as required. To provide the Consultant Radiologist/Radiographer, Advanced Practitioner or Registrar with x-ray guidance during breast interventional procedures. To maintain competence in all breast x-ray examinations and interventional procedures, including biopsy and localisation. To prepare equipment required for interventional procedures and to dispose of equipment safely following the procedure in line with Trust Policy. To apply pressure dressings to the patient following interventional procedures. To maintain competence in the use of the biopsy specimen x-ray machine. To be mindful of the needs and concerns of the women attending for breast examination, and explain to them all procedures where appropriate.
