What you’ll be doing: As aSkilled Shift Engineer , you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and improving Reach’s print production. Frompreventative maintenancetostructured problem-solving , you’ll use your technical expertise to keep everything running efficiently. This is ashift-based role , covering2 days, 2 nights, then 4 days off , so flexibility is key. You’ll be working with a dynamic team, tackling breakdowns, supporting operators with low-level engineering tasks, and developingstandard operating proceduresto enhance equipment performance. Your work will directly impact the reliability and efficiency of ourprint production , ensuring that our newspapers and digital platforms continue to reach millions of people. Your day-to-day will involve keeping our site running safely and efficiently. You’ll be responsible forconducting preventative maintenance , responding quickly to breakdowns, and using your problem-solving skills todeliver continuous improvements . You’ll collaborate closely with operators and other teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards while working with the latest technology and engineering systems. Whether it’s troubleshooting,developing SOPs , or supporting production activities, you’ll be at the heart of operations, making a real impact every shift. What you’ll need to succeed: You’ll need aLevel 3 (NVQ) engineering qualificationin electrical or mechanical disciplines—ortime-served apprenticeship experience . Your background inFMCG or manufacturing environmentswill help you handle the fast-paced nature of the role. A flexible, proactive mindset is essential, as is the ability tomultitask under pressure . Strong IT skills will come in handy, as you’ll be usingCMMS systems, MS Word, and Excelto report, track, and manage engineering tasks. Your excellent communication skills will also be key, as you’ll be interacting withoperators, contractors, and managementacross the site. What can we offer you?
