This project will investigate the efficacy of frequent but spatially sparse data on mooring lines to predict mooring line integrity, enabling targeted intervention and assessment of integrity for late life management of floating facilities.The University of Southampton has one of the largest supercomputer facilities in the country and a large (138 m long) hydrodynamic testing tank equipped with a scaled mooring spread. Data will be provided from field operations and potentially created from experimental testing.Maritime Engineering is co-located with Lloyds Registers Marine division on the Boldrewood Innovation Campus, providing the opportunity for this project to include development of design guidance for mooring systems based on the findings of the research.To be successful, you will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in computational analysis, statistics, fluid mechanics, or a related discipline.Equality, diversity, and inclusion are central to the ethos in the School of Engineering.
