Independent Technical Assessor Veterinary MicrobiologyLocation: Remote/Contract-Based | Contract Type: Independent Contractor | Organisation: UKASAbout the RoleUKAS is seeking an experienced Independent Technical Assessor with expertise in Veterinary Microbiology to support our accreditation assessments. This role involves evaluating veterinary laboratories against accreditation standards, ensuring technical competence, and maintaining high-quality diagnostic testing in microbiology, including mycology and parasitology.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct technical assessments of veterinary microbiology laboratories, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.Evaluate the application of diagnostic methodologies, including serological, molecular techniques, and MALDI-TOF.Assess laboratory procedures, sample processing, and reporting accuracy for veterinary diagnostics.Review the operation, validation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.Ensure laboratories adhere to IQC and EQA best practices, including Proficiency Testing (PT) schemes.Essential Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in Microbiology, Veterinary Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline, incorporating veterinary microbiology principles.Veterinary degree (MRCVS) with microbiology specialisation or relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc, PhD, FRCPath in Veterinary Microbiology or equivalent).Significant hands-on experience in veterinary microbiology laboratories or overseeing microbiology diagnostic services.Key Skills & KnowledgeStrong understanding of microbiological testing principles in veterinary diagnostics.Knowledge of standard veterinary microbiology methods and diagnostic applications.Experience with IQC, EQA, and PT schemes relevant to veterinary microbiology.Familiarity with accreditation standards and laboratory quality management systems.Desirable but Not EssentialMembership of relevant professional bodies such as FRCPath (Veterinary Microbiology Specialism) or Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).MRCVS accreditation with a focus on microbiology.Why Join Us?Flexible contract-based role with remote working opportunities.Contribute to maintaining and improving veterinary laboratory standards.Work with a leading UK accreditation body.To find out more about the opportunity follow the link:https://www.ukas.com/about-us/careers/independent-technical-assessors/ Candidate privacy notice link:https://www.ukas.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/UKAS-Candidate-Privacy-Notice.pdf
