Architect - Shift to Design ManagementStart 2025 with a exciting opportunity to join a New London Residential Developer and transform your career into Design Management and Land Acquisition! Our role offers ambitious Architects a rare step into a career pathway many aspire to but few achieve. By leveraging your architectural expertise, you'll transition to being a key lead in shaping our future developments.PurposeWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Architectural Designer / Architect for medium to large-scale residentially led construction projects, predominantly within London.You will be responsible for the oversight and optimisation of feasibilities and detailed designs for planning applications and beyond. Ensuring that these are produced to agreed and compliant design standards, particularly the Building Safety Act 2022, Principal Designer role and CDM regulations are essential as well as compliance with internal team requirements. Leading, motivating and challenging external design teams to ensure we have the best and most deliverable project will be very important. Appointing the A team of consultants and building strong relationships is also a key requirement as is setting accurate fee budgets and monitoring spend against this. The candidate must have very deep knowledge and experience working with the London planning system, including local and regional policy and politics. Successfully securing non-material amendments and minor material amendments to programme is essential. YT are keen to deliver schemes with class leading sustainability and energy efficiency so the candidate needs to outline how they believe they can help us achieve this. Similarly working with local communities and stakeholders on planning applications and beyond is also important. Be a proactive member of the UK development team, proactively contributing to other disciplines and workstreams as and when required. This role requires strong analytical skills, extensive knowledge of residential developments, and the ability to influence multiple internal and external stakeholders.Great communication skills are essential, not only with your UK colleagues but also your Mandarin speaking colleagues many of whom are unfamiliar with the UK development process. Some of things you'll be doing:Land - With our Land Director, to quickly understand and establish whether a site meets our criteria for further consideration. Programme - Responsible for setting, managing and reporting on individual planning programmes and ensuring that projects progress in a timely manner and to suit the agreed business plan. Coordinate external Consultants to ensure all necessary planning/supporting information is provided to suit the agreed programme and is to an appropriate standard.Quality - Ensure that appropriate design standards are met and champion good design on all projects. Manage and coordinate projects from feasibility and throughout the planning process to ensure that development aspirations are maximised. Manage design team procedures manual.Presentation - Ensure that all internal information (drawn or written) that is issued external and internally is prepared to a professional standard and in line with company protocolsEnsure that the appropriate design brief/specification is established and followed (in order to ensure the correct balance between development costs and sales revenue is achieved).Set and monitor consultants budget including any variations. The Ideal Candidate will be able to demonstrate:London development background with a mixture of architectural and development planning experience.Familiarity with the London planning and design market.Experience with Londons regional planning and design approval processes and preferences.Understanding of major London-wide planning principles and mainstream approval requirements.Ability to provide accurate, efficient professional judgment and forecasts in planning and design.Capability to identify and capitalize on planning opportunities, design possibilities, and government requirements.Competitiveness of planning approaches and strategies (ability to develop compelling design concepts).Execution skills for project design and planning (ability to implement design solutions effectively).Risk assessment and management (ensuring project success and mitigating potential issues).Highly skilled in implementing new and robust processes, procedures, structures.Leads by example with a focus on developing and supporting staff to maximise their potential and strengths.Flexible, adaptable and able to manage fluctuating workloads.Strong influential, persuasion and negotiation skills.Passion, drive and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding quality homes and communities.A real focus on delivering bespoke, tailored, unique design and construction.Strong team player with a focus on driving both team and site performance.Skills, Experience and QualificationsThis role is perfect for you if youre an Architect with over 5 years post qualification experience and a background working on complex medium and large scale, high rise projects.Excellent knowledge of modern construction materials and methods.Excellent knowledge of modern architectural principles, equations and processes.Ability to use CAD software to produce detailed computer-generated designs.Knowledge of Revit design software for modelling buildings.Registered to practice as an Architect with the Architects Registration Board (ARB).Chartered Architect Status gained through the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).Bilingual English and Mandarin would be desirable but not essential.A wider job description is available upon request.Why Join Us?We are an ethical and progressive employer which encourages a culture of openness, creativity and continuous professional development and which rewards the effectiveness and loyalty of our employees as an equal opportunities employer.
