Job Specification: Data Centre EngineerJob Title: Data Centre EngineerLocation: LondonJob Type: Full-time / PermanentSalary Range: 40,000 Job Purpose:To manage, maintain, and support data center operations, ensuring the availability, security, and optimal performance of IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking equipment, and power/cooling systems.Key Responsibilities:Hardware Installation & MaintenanceInstall, configure, and maintain servers, storage devices, and network equipment.Perform routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure system reliability.Network & ConnectivitySupport network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls.Troubleshoot connectivity issues and implement fixes promptly.Monitoring & TroubleshootingContinuously monitor system performance and address hardware/software issues.Use diagnostic tools to analyze network traffic, server logs, and storage performance.Security & ComplianceEnsure physical and cybersecurity best practices are followed.Maintain compliance with industry standards (ISO, ITIL, GDPR, etc.).Power & Cooling ManagementMonitor and maintain UPS, cooling systems, and power distribution.Work with facilities teams to prevent downtime due to environmental factors.Documentation & ReportingMaintain records of hardware/software inventory, incidents, and maintenance schedules.Provide technical reports and recommendations to management.Collaboration & SupportWork closely with IT teams, vendors, and service providers.Assist with disaster recovery and backup strategies.Skills & Experience RequiredEssential:Experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or network engineering.Strong understanding of server hardware (Dell, HP, IBM, etc.).Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP).Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).Troubleshooting skills in Windows/Linux environments.Understanding of virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V).ECS/CSCSDesirable:Certifications (CCNA, CompTIA Server+, AWS, Azure, ITIL).Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).Knowledge of automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash).Educational Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (preferred).Equivalent experience or certifications will be considered.Working Conditions:Shift work and on-call availability may be required.Physical work, including moving equipment and cabling.Working in a temperature-controlled data center environment.Sector:Interconnected through robust networks, these data center hubs facilitate seamless access to the internet, supporting vital sectors like life sciences, medicine, and banking.
