POSITION: Lead Claims HandlerASSIGNMENT NO: 28440LOCATION: LondonPurpose of the Job:To provide a claims handling service to members who are the subject of a clinical negligence claimKey Activities/Accountabilities:Responsible for handling own caseload in accordance with Claims Handling ProtocolProvide support for other members of the claims handling team & contribute to a positive team cultureTo investigate, quantify and negotiate claimsProvide assistance & guidance to members during the claims handling processMaintain a good working knowledge of current technical & legal developments relevant to the work of the Claims Handling departmentParticipate in educational activities & keep a record of training/educational activitiesAny other duties that are within the post holders capabilitiesQualifications & Experience:Claims handling experience in clinical negligence or other relevant business area such as personal injury, general insurance or legal environmentJob Related Competencies knowledge, skills and attitude:Personal/General:Excellent oral & written communicationAble to adapt & work under pressure, prioritising as necessarySupportive of other team membersTechnical:Knowledge of Civil Procedure RulesGood negotiation skillsAdherence to the Claims Handling ProtocolKnowledge of IT systems, particularly in house (COMPASS & PROFILE)Keeps up to date with legislative changes & developing case lawKey Outputs/Performance Measures:Actively managing claims & maintaining case files in good orderEnsuring case files are adequately reserved & reviewed in accordance with Claims Handling ProtocolCompliance with Complaints ProcedureDetermination of indemnity coverage & adherence to protocol for referring coverage issuesContribute to project work within Claims Handling or other departments including writing at least one article per year for the JournalControl & minimise indemnity payments & defence costsJob Context:This position requires the post holder to manage a portfolio of claims, using technical skills to achieve the optimum result on each case. Adherence to legislative requirements 'service standards is essential. The post holder must be flexible, self-motivated & able to work as part of a team.To work within a team with claims handlers at various levels, providing support and assistance as required.
