Sony Research India is offering outstanding career opportunities around frontline technologies such as AI and data analytics.Job Purpose:For this internship program, we are seeking a Linguist Intern to specialize in refining and correcting subtitle translations in the entertainment and media domain. This role is crucial in ensuring that subtitles are accurate, culturally relevant, and naturally suited for voice synthesis in films, TV shows, web series, and other media content. The intern will work with subtitle editing tools to correct machine-generated translations, ensuring they are concise, properly timed, and structured. Your primary roles and responsibilities:Edit and refine translated subtitles for accuracy, fluency, and natural speech flow.Ensure timing and segmentation of subtitles are synchronized with speech pacing.Adapt translations for cultural relevance and audience engagement in entertainment content.Collaborate with audio engineers to ensure that the text aligns with AI-generated voice output.Work on dialogue localization for multiple languages while preserving the original intent and emotion.Perform high-quality LQA (language quality assurance).Work Location:Remote.Duration of the internship:The paid internship will be for 6 months starting April first week of 2025.The working hours are from 9:00 to 18:00 (Monday to Friday) fulltime.Essential Education:Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Media Localization, or a related field. Strong grasp of syntax, phonetics, and grammar in at least one major language, preferably English plus any of the Indian languages.Skills required:Proficiency in subtitle editing tools like Subtitle Edit, Aegisub, Ooona, or EZTitles. Strong understanding of timing, text alignment, and readability for subtitles. Ability to rewrite and restructure text for better clarity in spoken language. Knowledge of linguistic nuances, idioms, and cultural adaptations for dubbing scripts.Good to have Skills:Prior experience in subtitle translation, editing, or localization for films, TV shows, or web series is a plus. Worked on subtitling, captioning, or speech-to-text projects in the media and entertainment industry is desirable.Familiarity with AI-assisted translation tools and speech synthesis technologies. Understanding of script variations (Devanagari, Tamil, Bengali, etc.) for multilingual projects. Experience in text compression and subtitle formatting for readability.
