This includes data management, storage, integration, and governance. The Data domain leans into Machine Learning and AI, as well as Data Science and Business Intelligence. This job is a member of the Information Technology Team within the Information Technology Division You will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data products and data engineering pipelines for cross-functional teams in the IT and Business Organization You will leverage cutting edge technology to solve business problems at American Airlines by participating in all phases of the development process from inception through transition You will be a technology leader for the organization, partnering with architects, senior leaders, and our engineering teams to drive architecture/technology decisions & vision, provide technical guidance to the team, POC & establish common patterns, tools & playbooks, design & build solutions to difficult problems and continuously advocate for quality, reusability, efficiency, and technical excellence. Data processing patterns and making the data engineering a better place to live and work at American Airlines. What you’ll do: Provide product technical leadership for teams to both analyze and take charge of long-term opportunities, designing a cutting-edge data solution and help with core development when needed. Act as Product Technical Lead. Act as subject matter expert for data domain within the IT organization and work with business to author self-service data products Collaborate with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads, and other developers, along with internal customers and cross functional teams to implement data strategy Design and build data engineering pipeline frameworks while ensuring these are reusable, scalable, efficient, maintainable, gracefully recover from failures, reprocessing the data should be easy. Drive data quality, best practices, coding standards, Test Driven Development, identifying single source of truth for data across systems and Quality Analytics (Mean Time to Recover, Mean Time between Failures, Patterns causing failures). Utilize data pipelines to provide actionable insights into data quality and product performance. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements such as automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability. Contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering across the enterprise by researching industry best practices and determining best usage of specific cloud services and tools. Work with data squads to ensure data products are designed with privacy and compliance baked in (Privacy by design). Work with product teams to help prioritize team objectives and initiatives/team features. Conduct road shows on the data products across the organization. Advocate the agile process and test-driven development, using data engineering development tools to analyze, model, design, construct and test reusable All you’ll need for success • Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training 9+ years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in data analytics, warehousing, and data engineering. Expert knowledge of relational database concepts, data modeling, meta driven solutions, semantic layers, and ETL / ELT. Working experience in data analytics (data wrangling, mining, integration, analysis, visualization, data modeling, analysis / analytics, and reporting). 3 years of cloud experience in one or more private cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP). 3 years of experience leading Agile teams, Experience with sprint planning, story time, and backlog grooming. 5 years of Airline Industry experience Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training. 3 plus years of leading data engineering teams. Skills, Licenses & Certifications Proficiency in Full Stack Data Engineering Development Proficiency and demonstrated experience in the following technologies: Experience operating and building in public cloud such as Azure (preferred), AWS or GCP. ETL / Data Engineering: Databricks, DataStage, Informatica or any ETL tool. Data Warehousing: Data modelling, Lambda architecture, Spark Streaming, Real time, and batch processing. Databases: Relational databases such as Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB. Cloud-based development: Azure Data Engineering Azure Cloud Technologies: Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Power App, Azure Streaming Analytics, Azure EventHub, Azure Functions. Scripting: Python, Spark, Linux / Unix, SQL CI/CD tools: Git / GitHub, Azure DevOps, IBM Urban Code, Jenkins Other: IBM MQ / Rabbit MQ, Tivoli Scheduler, Teradata SQL Developer Assistant, IDE BI: Cognos, Tableau, PowerBI Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Experience in Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM Language, Communication Skills, & Physical Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written with all levels within the organization Physical ability necessary to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of the position, with or without any legally required reasonable accommodations that do not pose an undue hardship.
