What You’ll Achieve : We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head of Engineering to lead and scale our engineering team, which focuses on delivering high-quality, scalable solutions using PHP, Node.js, MySQL, PostgreSQL and embraces automation testing and DevOps practices. The Head of Engineering will oversee all technical aspects of development, ensure best practices, drive innovation, and create a collaborative and efficient work environment. This is a leadership role that combines both technical and strategic responsibilities, aiming to build and maintain a robust infrastructure that supports our product growth and evolving business goals. You will: Technical Oversight: Oversee system architecture and design with a focus on microservices to ensure scalability, fault tolerance, and resilience. Guiding the architects in thinking through the right technical architecture for each initiative. Provide expertise in both backend and frontend frameworks, databases, automation, and DevOps practices. Ensure the team is proficient in modern engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and testing automation. Champion best practices in coding, architecture, and security. Setting the culture in the team to write high-performance code. We run ~5 million API jobs per day, so performance is upper important. Working with the product team for quarterly & yearly roadmaps. Automation & Quality Assurance: Establish an automation testing framework that minimizes manual testing and maximizes quality and coverage across all codebases. Collaborate with the QA team to implement automated testing strategies, integrating them into the CI/CD pipeline. Define and implement metrics to measure and improve quality, stability, and efficiency of the development lifecycle. DevOps & Infrastructure Management: Drive DevOps culture and practices, optimizing our development-to-deployment pipeline. Ensure infrastructure is optimized for scalability and reliability, managing environments for staging, production, and testing. Oversee cloud and server management, ensuring efficient database optimization (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and minimizing downtime. Work closely with the operations team to streamline deployment processes, monitoring, and logging to improve system reliability and uptime. Team Building & Development and Team Culture: Build, lead, and develop a highly effective engineering team, focusing on skill-building, career growth, and professional development. Lead recruitment and retention efforts, fostering a positive, inclusive, and innovative engineering culture. Create a strong feedback loop for engineering teams to continuously improve and refine their craft. Setting the culture in the team to write highly maintainable code. Code written will be stay in the product for many years, it has to be well written such that future team members can run with it. We follow the agile methodology. So, daily standups, fortnightly sprints, and retrospectives will be a part of your daily life. Leadership & Strategy: Provide technical leadership and direction to the engineering team. Mentor, guide, and inspire the engineering team, promoting a high-performance culture. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product, design, and operations, to shape product vision, roadmap, and execution. Define and implement engineering processes, best practices, and standards to ensure high productivity, quality, and code consistency. Essential Requirements: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Hands-on professional with 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role. Technologies : PHP using the CakePHP Framework Node JS Kafka for Event Streaming Python & Node VueJS for UI/UX MySQL as the primary datastores Redis for queues and caching ElasticSearch + Kibana for log monitoring and analysis Clickhouse Db for analytics Various Azure Services for infrastructure Other skills : Strong background and experience in microservices architecture. Strong background in automation testing and DevOps practices, with experience building CI/CD pipelines and implementing automated testing frameworks. Familiarity with cloud services, containerization (Docker), and orchestration tools (Kubernetes) Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills. Ability to balance hands-on technical knowledge with managerial responsibilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset. Desirable Requirement: Security Expertise. Industry Specific Knowledge. What you will experience at Ginesys: Marketplace eCommerce – We deal with 3 different business models of Amazon, 2 of Flipkart. Myntra has a different way of working than NetMeds. You will be exposed to all of this complexity and learn from it. Exposure to Scale E-commerce is a bursty business. We regularly have deal days where we see 100K orders. To work through these orders our system does 10 million to 12 million API jobs per day. Also, we have clients with 500 stores X 8 Lakh products which means 400 million inventory points stored just for this one client. Micro Performance Improvements – We spoke about the 10m API jobs above. Constant small improvements in code or architecture results in performance gains. Hybrid Cloud – We are mostly hosted on Azure. But, to save cost we transitioned some of our workload to dedicated servers which are 80% cheaper. You will learn how to design systems to get the best of both worlds.
